Are you planning a trip to Disney World? Do you have Magic Kingdom on the brain? Have you been looking at Disney World restaurants and making those advance dining reservations? Good! That means you’re a SMART Disney planner. And you’ve come to the right place.
We’re here to help you plan ahead so that you won’t be caught off guard by unexpected closures or disappointing updates. There’s nothing worse than visiting your favorite ride only to see it boarded up and under construction. We don’t want that! Now, come along with us as we take a look at all the upcoming ride closures in Disney World this August.
Peter Pan’s Flight
This ride is SUPER popular. We’re talking 60+ minute waits each day! But for a few weeks, that wait time will be reduced to zero while the ride is closed for refurbishment. In fact, Peter Pan’s Flight is closed now and is set to reopen on August 21st.
Disney did not state the reason for this temporary closure, but we did notice that a construction permit was filed by Disney Imagineering in May. The contractor for the project is InterAmerica Stage, Inc., which specializes in stage rigging and machinery, so we’re expecting some updates when the ride reopens.
Test Track
EPCOT’s Test Track is also currently closed for refurbishment and will remain closed through August. Now, unlike the Peter Pan’s Flight refurbishment, this one might take a little longer. That’s because Disney is planning to update the ride in a BIG way.
Disney hasn’t shared much about this ride transformation, but we do know that the new version of the ride will be inspired by a retro EPCOT attraction — World of Motion! We can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Test Track is currently set to reopen in the spring of 2025, though Disney has not shared an official opening date yet.

Voyage of The Little Mermaid
OK, this attraction has been closed for AGES, and guess what? It’s still going to be closed in August. The Voyage of the Little Mermaid was a live show in Disney’s Hollywood Studios featuring Ariel, Price Eric, Flounder, and some other iconic characters from the animated movie. It’s been closed since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
But the good news is that this building isn’t a total lost cause! In fact, Disney confirmed that the original show is getting an update. We’re looking forward to The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure, the new show featuring “stunning new set pieces, cutting-edge effects, and a bold new design that captures Ariel’s imagination and emotions through her unique view of the world around her.” Listen for songs like “Part of Your World,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” and “Kiss the Girl.” The attraction is scheduled to reopen in the fall of 2024.

Jungle Cruise
We’ve got one more Magic Kingdom ride closure to talk about this August! The Jungle Cruise will close on August 26th for a refurbishment.
We’re still waiting for Disney to share more details about this closure! Currently, there is no reopening date listed on the Disney World website, but we’ll be sure to keep our eyes out for updates.

Oh no my husband was looking forward to the jungle cruise! We will be there Sept 3rd and that’s one he had on his list. We haven’t been in 15 years and this is a grad present to our son. Boohoo
