The Disney parks around the world are known for some pretty amazing things.
Disneyland itself was the first park of its kind, Tokyo DisneySea recently opened the absolutely incredible Fantasy Springs land, and we’re looking forward to hearing more about Disney’s theme park expansion plans next month at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. But now, one Disney park has officially broken a Guinness World Record, and the record that was broken might surprise you!
On the evening of July 14th, 2024, Disneyland Paris officially became the Guinness World Record holder for the “Largest aerial display of a fictional character formed by multirotors/drones.” That’s quite a specific title!
A total of 1,571 drones were used to create a massive tri-colored Mickey Mouse high in the sky. The giant Mickey image was created with the colors of the French flag to celebrate Bastille Day on July 14th.
Disneyland Paris is no novice to drone shows — they’ve been using drones for their nighttime spectaculars for a few years now, and we’ve been very jealous over here in the States (but now we have Disney Dreams That Soar in Disney Springs!). This particular spectacular was done in partnership with Dronisos, Europe’s leading drone show technology provider.
The show used a grand total of 1,630 drones (including pyro drones — yes, those exist!) to create a 12-minute show of five different scenes from Disney films inspired by France — Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Sleeping Beauty, The Aristocats, and Ratatouille — plus the Eiffel Tower and the Notre Dame Cathedral.
While this Bastille Day show was only for one day, guests visiting the parks can still experience the Disney Electrical Sky Parade over Sleeping Beauty Castle, which uses over 500 drones, this summer and fall. Lovers of the extinct Main Street Electrical Parade from the United States are sure to be fans.
