Are you ready to sail away on a Disney Cruise?
We recently sailed on the Disney Magic, and since we love the food on these Disney cruises, we wanted to bring you our review of Rapunzel’s Royal Table. Let’s dive right in!
We love the food on a Disney cruise (it’s one of the best parts of the cruise!). On each of Disney’s cruise ships, there are three main dining rooms, which means that during your stay you get to enjoy rotational dining. In other words, each night of your cruise you rotate restaurants and your serving team rotates right along with you. It’s a fun and unique way for you to have different dining experiences on your cruise.
As we said, we hopped on a cruise aboard the Disney Magic and its three dining rooms are Animator’s Palate (on deck four aft), Lumiere’s (in the lobby atrium on deck three), and Rapunzel’s Royal Table (on deck three aft). They’re all so uniquely themed and the menus match the vibes perfectly. For this post, we’re focusing on our time at Rapunzel’s Royal Table.
Atmosphere
First up, Rapunzel’s Royal Table is the Disney Magic’s newest restaurant. Guess what the theme is? It’s Rapunzel’s birthday and we’re all invited to the festivities!
As you make your way into the restaurant, some of your favorite characters from the Snuggly Duckling come by to greet you.
At the same time, you get to enjoy live music from the best musicians in the Kingdom of Corona.
It’s not just friends from the Snuggly Duckling. You’ll also see Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder as they show up!
If you’re a Tangled fan make sure to keep your eyes peeled and take in all of your surroundings. You’ll find a lot of nods to the film like some of Rapunzel’s paintings, and don’t forget to keep an eye out for that little rascal Pascal!
Now, let’s dive into the full course of offerings we tried there — the Pretzel Bread served with Mustard Dipping Sauce, Smolder Cocktail, Floating Lantern Cocktail, Corona Shrimp, Snuggly Duckling Platter, Ahi Tuna Tartar, Maximus Salad, Pan-seared Sea Bass Filet, Oktoberfest Lemon and Thyme Roasted Chicken, Captain of the Guards Roasted Prime Rib of Beef, Warm Braided Apple Strudel, Birthday Cupcake Sundae, Gothel Black Forest Tower, and Rapunzel’s Fry Pan Sweet Bread.
Eats
First up, our dinner started with a bread service which means we got to partake in Pretzel Bread served with Mustard Dipping Sauce (this is the featured bread at Rapunzel’s). In general, Disney pretzel bread can be a bit too tough on the outside, but this was a wonderfully soft kind of pretzel bread.
Also, as someone who isn’t the biggest fan of mustard, we found the mustard sauce to be tangy (not overly) and quite creamy. It was a perfect pairing with the pretzel bread and 100% a match for the overall vibe of the restaurant.
Next, we wanted to try two of the cocktails available here (sodas, juices, teas, and coffee are included, but you can also order specialty drinks for an extra fee). First, we tried the Smolder Cocktail.
Now this one was SUPER sweet. The elderberry helps a bit by adding some bitterness that cuts through. Overall, it was much more floral and the cotton candy flavor wasn’t the strongest. Not to be too dramatic, the taste was children’s cough syrup-like.
Next, we tried the Floating Lantern Cocktail. It had a fruity, peachy flavor, but was mostly Prosecco. If you’re a fan of Moscato, this might be right up your alley.
Moving right along to the appetizers, let’s talk about the Corona Shrimp first. This was fire. We loved it. It’s a big piece of shrimp (ours was slightly overcooked) that had excellent bread crumbs that were paired well with a pea puree.
There was also a potato wedge which was good, but overall forgettable. Overall, it’s quite a popular app and one you’ll definitely want to talk to your server about immediately, especially if you want seconds.
Next, we had the Snuggly Duckling Platter (think a charcuterie board sans cheese). The portions of the platter were perfect. If you’re a fan of pumpernickel bread, this one was for you as it was soft and doughy.
The prosciutto and salami were salty with just the right amount of fat. Also, the German mustard was rich and tangy and had a slight bite.
Next, let’s talk about the Ahi Tuna Tartar. If you’re looking for an app with a delicious medley of flavors and variety, look no further than this one. It’s very fresh and subtly fruity (because of the mango and tangy veggies). Also, be prepared for the kick of wasabi. Overall, a delicious bite that works as a palate cleanser.
As a side note, these kinds of appetizers are wonderfully refreshing since while you’re on a cruise, you’re constantly being loaded with food.
Lastly, we tried Maximus Salad. Let’s just say, Maximus might be super excited about this kind of appetizer. The potatoes were flavorful. The cucumbers had a vinegar tang.
The carrots and greens lacked dressing. Overall, it was nice as an appetizer, but not very memorable.
Next up, we’ve got the main course. Our first dish was the Pan-seared Sea Bass Filet (this is a Disney Cruise Line favorite!). It’s quite reminiscent of the Sea Bass from both the Disney Dream and the Fantasy.
Even though we love this dish, to be honest, it was kind of bland. It was cooked well and had a nice meaty texture, but the sauce was bland as well. Perhaps if there was more sauce it might have been better. We did enjoy the lemon flavor and the mix of vegetables in the dish as well.
Next, we had the Oktoberfest Lemon and Thyme Roasted Chicken, which was juicy and moist, but also a bit on the bland side. The au jus didn’t add much flavor at all. The potatoes while soft and salty with an herb flavor, were nothing to write home about.
Overall, it’s a good meal for those looking for something not too adventurous (picky eaters should enjoy this).
The last entree in the main course we tried was the Captain of the Guards Roasted Prime Rib of Beef. Hear us when we say it was BY FAR the BEST prime rib we’ve ever had on Disney Cruise Line. We were completely shocked by how good it was.
It was incredibly juicy and flavorful. The twice-baked potato had a fun presentation, but for a baked potato, it didn’t have the flavor that we would’ve wanted. But, overall, this dish was amazing (definitely what we will be dreaming of).
Now, onto dessert. Our first dessert was the Warm Braided Apple Strudel. Firstly, it was fine as a strudel, but nothing really special. It was an easy chew but tough to cut. If we had our choice, we would’ve traded more butter pecan ice cream over vanilla sauce because we all know how lovely a hot dessert is with cold ice cream.
Next, we HAD to try the Birthday Cupcake Sundae (it is Rapunzel’s birthday after all). This really was such a tasty treat!! We’re huge fans of how well the sweet ice cream and the raspberry syrup paired together. The cupcake was a bit dry, but who’s counting that. Kiddos, this one’s for you!
Onto the signature dessert — Gothel Black Forest Tower. This one was definitely rich and creamy (very cocoa-y). The fruit inside was an excellent complement to the chocolate as it was syrupy and tangy. We definitely enjoyed it, but it is quite rich and heavy. Chocolate lovers take note!
For our final dessert, we called on Rapunzel’s Fry Pan Sweet Bread. We were a bit confused as to how to describe it as it was between pan dulce and a churro-like pastry. For us, it was a bit stale and tough.
That made it difficult to cut. The ice cream and chocolate syrup helped the dish slightly, but it just didn’t quite reach the heights of a perfect warm pastry and cold ice cream dish. Overall, it wasn’t terrible, just not great. Still, the presentation would be fun for the kiddos.

Overall, we enjoyed these meals and we think you would too. There are some misses, but there are also some solid options.
