We’re all prone to believing a thing or two about Disney World that isn’t exactly true, right?
We’re talking about tall tales like there being a dome over Disney World to prevent bad weather, that Tinker Bell has to fly every night in Magic Kingdom or else you get free admission, or even that Walt Disney himself is cryogenically frozen. These kinds of “lies” persist and we figured we’d break down some of the lies about EPCOT that you thought were true! Let’s dive right in!
Spaceship Earth is a Giant Golf Ball
One of the biggest “lies” is that Spaceship Earth is just a massive golf ball. I mean, I get it. It does look like one from a distance.
This 18-story geodesic sphere is actually home to a great dark ride that takes you through the history of human communication. It’s not empty inside, and it’s definitely not designed for a game of giant putt-putt.
EPCOT Stands for “Every Person Comes Out Tired”
While it’s true that you’ll probably log a TON of steps as you travel around the massive park, EPCOT actually stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.
Walt Disney envisioned EPCOT as a kind of utopian city where technology and innovation would create a better future.
We do appreciate the joke saying that it stands for “Every Person Comes Out Tired”, especially after you’ve spent the day exploring the entire World Showcase.
It’s Only for Adults
We get that EPCOT has this reputation for being a “grown-up” park thanks to the World Showcase being full of international food and drink, but this place is also great for kids too!
With rides like Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and plenty of character meet-and-greets, there’s loads for the kiddos.
Also, there’s food for them, too from churros in Mexico to gelato in Italy.
There’s Nothing for Thrill-Seekers
Do you think EPCOT is only about slow rides and educational experiences? Well, think again!
Thrill-seekers can get their fix on Test Track, where you zoom around and test a concept car. Then there’s Mission: SPACE, which simulates a trip to Mars (it’s definitely not for the faint of heart).
Also, let’s not forget Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, which is a roller coaster that combines high-speed excitement with the Marvel Universe.
The Food is All Burgers and Fries
This one couldn’t be further from the truth! EPCOT’s World Showcase is a culinary tour around the globe.
You can savor sushi in Japan, indulge in pastries in France, or enjoy bratwurst in Germany. The food is authentic and delicious, making it a haven for foodies.
So, put those burger and fries assumptions to rest and get ready to expand your palate.
You Need to Speak Another Language to Enjoy World Showcase
Yes, EPCOT is a celebration of cultures from around the world, but you don’t need to be multilingual to enjoy it.
You’ll find that the Cast Members speak English, and they’re super friendly and eager to share their culture with you. It’s all about celebrating diversity, not making you feel like you to brush up on your Duolingo in order to navigate the park.
You Have to See Everything in EPCOT in One Day
Ok, so EPCOT is massive, and trying to cram everything into one day is a rookie mistake. You can easily spend multiple days exploring all it has to offer.
If you’re staying at one of the nearby Boardwalk hotels, you can just stroll back to your room during the hottest part of the day and return in the evening for a different experience.
The same goes for Skyliner resorts or those with monorail access which makes EPCOT a breeze to visit over a few days.
Those were just a few of the lies about EPCOT that you thought were true, and we’d love to hear more from you! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

Bandit says
You left out that it’s spelled wrong. Ask little kids to pronounce it, it’s EPICot “Experimental Prototype Inclusive City Of Tomorrow”. Just like elepiphant.
