We don’t know about you, but we are struggling to keep up with all the changes happening in Disney World right now. Sure, the EPCOT transformation is finally complete, but there are still so many more changes in store.
Magic Kingdom will be getting a huge expansion. In EPCOT, Test Track is closed so it can be reimagined. In Disney’s Animal Kingdom, DinoLand, U.S.A. is going to get a re-theme. Then Disney went and announced that it’s also completely changing Genie+. We’ve been doing our best to answer all your burning questions about the NEW system replacing Genie+, and now we want to talk about attractions that are NOT a part of it.
First up, Genie+ is gone and has been replaced with Lightning Lane Multi Pass. It’s more than just a name change, though. You can now purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass BEFORE your trip and make up to three ride selections before you ever step foot in the parks. If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel, you’ll get to make your selections up to seven days in advance. Everyone else can make selections three days in advance.
Rides have also been put into a tiered system, so you’ll only be able to book one Lightning Lane for rides in the top tier and two rides in the bottom tier or three rides in the bottom tier. It’s pretty confusing, but wait until we tell you which attractions are NOT included with Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
There’s a brand new meet and greet in EPCOT called Mickey and Friends at CommuniCore Hall, and it’s pretty popular. That’s why it currently has a Lightning Lane with Genie+. You might think that means it would be part of the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass, but you’d be wrong. Instead, the only way to meet Mickey and Friends in EPCOT is by standing in the standby line. Note that this experience is also not an option with Lightning Lane Single Pass (which was previously known as Individual Lightning Lane).
We are so used to being able to book a Lightning Lane through Genie+ for the Festival of Fantasy parade in Magic Kingdom that we’re kinda shocked we’ll no longer be able to do that with Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Instead, you’ll just have to stake out your parade spot early if you want to get a good spot to view it.
We’re running a number of experiments with the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass system to answer ALL of your questions. Don’t want to miss a thing? Be sure to sign up for our newsletter to catch all of the latest. You can also follow along on our social channels like Instagram and Facebook.
