We love taking in the sights and sounds of San Fransokyo Square at Disneyland Resort. From stopping by one of the dining locations to grabbing some Boudin sourdough, or heading to meet Baymax, this area is full of things to do.
Well, this area just got a new arrival is the form of a new snack! You know we couldn’t resist stopping by to see how this new food item tastes.
We are headed over to San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure Park to check out a new snack option. We love the theming in this area, and we were so excited to check out a new offering!
We stopped by to try out the new Golden Bao Bun at Lucky Fortune Cookery. The Golden Bao Bun is a fried bun with ground pork & vegetables served with sweet mayo, furikake and green onions. You can grab this dish for $8.99.
This dish is served warm and we thought it tasted pretty similar to lumpia, except for the bun. We mostly tasted sweet vegetable flavor in the filling, with a mild pork flavor, but the veggies are definitely the star in this bao bun. The texture inside was soft, with a slight crunch from the vegetables which we really enjoyed. The bao bun is fried, but resulted in the end pieces being a bit hard and crunchy.
The sweet mayo sauce added a light, tangy flavor. The furikake adds a salty and fishy flavor to the dish. The dish was also served with a cup of sauce. We thought this sauce was one of the spicier sauces we have had a Disneyland Resort, which definitely surprised us! The initial flavor is spicy, and then it ends with a light vinegar flavor. However, you can easily control how much spice this dish has as the sauce is served on the side.
Overall, we thought this Golden Bao Bun was okay, but we do have a slight warning! We weren’t superfans of the furikake as it added a salty and fishy flavor to the bao bun. However, if you are a fan of that flavor, we think you will really enjoy this bao bun. We think we would have enjoyed it more with a bit less sweet mayo and less furikake. These two flavors together were very overpowering and we probably would have preferred enjoying the flavor of the bun a bit more.
While we enjoyed this dish, we wouldn’t say you need to run over to Lucky Fortune Cookery right away to try it out. If you are looking for a quick (although kinda fishy tasting) snack, the Golden Bao Bun could be a great option! Want to learn even more about the snacks offered at Disneyland Resort?
