Do you visit the pool at your Disney World Resort? Or do you prefer to relax in other ways?
Depending on what time of day you visit, the Disney World hotel pools can get very crowded! With people trying to cool off from the parks midday or taking a rest day at the resort, using the pool is a very coveted amenity for many. However, now it seems Disney is having to crack down on some pool rules.
At Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, wristbands are now required to use the Fuentes del Morro pool. That’s the main large pool at the resort, located next to the lobby.
A Cast Member will be located near the pool entrance to check guests as they come in, and you’ll need to prove that you’re staying at Caribbean Beach Resort for your family to receive wristbands to enter the pool area. As far as Cast Members knew, this change is here to stay at Caribbean Beach.
The pool was closed for weather when we stopped by, but the way that this wristband system has worked in the past at the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts is that you’ll need to scan a MagicBand or room ticket in order to prove your reservation. If you’re trying to swim at Caribbean Beach, it’s probably a good idea to bring one of those items along with you. The purpose of the wristband system is to keep people from “pool hopping” who aren’t staying at the hotel.
🚨CONFIRMED: Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort will be requiring wristbands for their main feature pool, Fuentes del Morro, INDEFINITELY.
Cast members say they’re not certain if this will roll out to more WDW hotels, but it is here to stay at this resort from what they know. pic.twitter.com/B9z8ucX9Wx

When we shared a video of the changes with our Twitter/X followers, we received mixed responses in the comments. Some are thrilled about this change, while others are upset about Disney “limiting” access to pools. (Keep in mind that the “no pool hopping” rule has been around for a while, this is just Disney World cracking down on it a bit more.)
Others in our comments noted that they hope Disney starts doing this for all Deluxe Resort and/or Moderate Resort pools. Caribbean Beach was likely chosen because of its ease of access via the Disney Skyliner.
Some people argued that Disney should open all pools to all on-site guests, however, this method would likely cause chaos and heavy crowds. We’d end up seeing empty pools at Value Resorts and overcrowded pools at Deluxe Resorts. Those who paid to stay at the nicer hotels would not be able to easily access the amenities they paid for.
We’ll be interested to see if this change continues at other pools around Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB. We’ve got you covered with the latest!

So the pool crashers moved from Beach Club to Caribbean Beach. “Curses, foiled again”.
Yeah, pool hopping and pool crashing were never permitted at Walt Disney World. But when pools become overwhelmed with people who are guests at the resort, Disney has no choice but to crack down.

They should just add a slide to a pool at all the resorts.

Wish they would do this at all pools. Frustrating to hear people who are not staying at the hotel, or even at any WDW resort, bragging about swimming at resort pools.

Of course, people would like to go wherever they want, do whatever they want and not abide by any existing rules or policies, nor think twice about it when they break them.
You purchase a park pass, you purchase the right to enter the park – Disney allows you to come and go, meaning if you’d like to visit a resort to sit in the lobby or dine in their restaurants, go for it- but to think that extends to the resort’s other amenities such as the pool, parking lots or other offerings by the resort to their paying guests is just wrong.
Where this absurd sense of entitlement comes from, I’m not sure, but as the years go by and our visits to the Disney properties for the last thirty years continue, I have seen a continuing uptick in negative interpersonal behaviors both in and around the parks.
Lack of common courtesies towards others, disregard/disrespect for the physical properties, graffiti and garbage tossed around were once so rare they weren’t even thought of, have now, unfortunately, continued to grow to the point where they are constantly noticed, but hopefully will never be accepted as the “new norm”.
So, now people have the expectation they can just leave the park and swim where they’d like without consequence- amazing the unmitigated gall on display these days.
Let’s hope Disney continues to enforce the rules in place, but wouldn’t it be great if people just followed the rules in the first place?

The pool hoping perk when we joined dvc in 2007 was one of the great benefits of being a member. If they keep taking away all of the perks then it isn’t worth having. Over selling the dvc will cause over crowding issues.

I agree with the top comments. Disney needs to start cracking down on pool hoppers more. That’s what the water parks are for! Go to those if you want to “pool hop”! Also, I agree that Disney needs to crack down on rule breakers and litter bugs in their parks! Play stupid games, win stupid prizes as I like to say!

It’s very simple. Resort pool use should be limited to those staying at that respective resort. I’d like to see strong enforcement of this throughout all WDW resorts. Recreation areas at resorts were designed and constructed to handle volume from the accommodations on-site. It’s a common sense thing, but sadly it seems like a diminishing percentage of guests have common sense.

I missed the days when pool hopping was allowed. We would always stay the day at another resort while visiting the world.

Does anyone recall the year Disney installed vertical lift gates at all the resorts? Parents were dropping their kids off at the pools and going to work. So, with that said is Disney cracking down on LINE JUMPING. Seems to me, that is more of an issue, should place a cast member at entrance of each popular ride to STOP IT!!!!!

I’m happy that WDW will be enforcing rules, especially those that have been in place for a long time. Resort guests should be able to enjoy the amenities at their own resort. If you want to swim at Stormalong Bay or Fuentes Del Morro, then that’s the resort you need to book for your stay.

I am all for this. I don’t want everyone from Magic Kingdom taking their mid-day break at my hotel pool. I know that’s not the pool you referred to, but hopefully it will get to all of them.
Racer says
Pool hopping has never been allowed. Disney needs to crack down on people using amenities that they don’t pay for.
