If you’re honest, you’ll agree that most of us feel some type of way about the construction projects at Disney World!
We love Disney and all, but just about everywhere you look some type of construction is happening, and for some of them, they seem to take forever to complete. It’s that situation that got us thinking about Disney’s construction timelines and we wanted to pick your brains to find out how you felt about them! Well, we asked and you delivered!
We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “Does Disney take too long to construct its new rides, restaurants, hotels, etc.?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!
Now, let’s dive into some of your top responses!
The “Yes and It’s a Problem” Camp
First up, we’ve got a solid group of you who think that Disney’s construction timelines are getting out of hand.
To this point, DFB reader Laura, talking about the new CommuniCore, shared, “Yes, it took way too long for what it offers.” And she’s not alone. Shawn chimed in by comparing Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and TRON Lightcycle Run and shared, “I would say so. Tiana’s came up pretty quick, but just look at how long TRON took. Remember how long it took for the original Test Track to be finished.”
Then we’ve got Charlotte, who brought the comparison to Universal Orlando by adding, “Universal has built a whole theme park in less time than it took to revamp EPCOT. Even with Covid, and according to the local news, they are ahead of schedule.” Last up, we’ve got Luke who mentioned, “Yes! In the same time Disney builds a clone of a ride they have in another park (that itself still has issues and breaks down), other theme parks including Universal have a whole new unique land/hub open with flawless rides.”
The “No, They’re Doing It Right” Crew
Next up, there’s a sizeable group of you who think Disney is doing just fine with their timelines.
First up, DFB reader Laura shared, “For the resort hotels and rides, I can see how safety, comfort, and luxury would take a long time to construct properly.” Karen echoed that sentiment by giving props to Disney’s commitment to quality by saying, “I don’t think so. The Disney quality shows in everything they do! Kudos to those talented Imagineers!” Then Doug added, “No, they take as long as it takes to get everything completed safely.”
We have Steven wrapping this one up reminding us about the payoff of these long waits with, “I don’t think so. The new attractions are so awesome and over the top. It takes time for perfection. If they pulled it off any quicker, it would be at the expense of theming on the ride and in the queue. Look at the Ratatouille attraction compared to Cosmic Rewind. Ratatouille has no theming until right before boarding.”
The “It Depends” Squad
Lastly, we have the group of you in the middle ground when it comes to the timelines.
For example, we had DFB reader Jessi share, “To me, it depends on the project. With Tiana’s, it’s the same exact ride system so I feel like it could’ve been switched over rather quickly. But with something like Cosmic Rewind, it required a complete overhaul with new tracks, new tech, and everything in between. If it’s totally original, they can take all the time they need because at least you’ll know it’s worth it.”
Those were just some of your thoughts regarding Disney’s construction timelines at Disney World, and we want to hear more from you! Until then, keep it right here for all the latest Disney news! Also, follow us on Facebook to join in on the next discussion.

“Ratatouille has no theming until right before boarding.” I don’t get this part. You enter in an area that is so Parisian, and the whole line is very French.

For those who say that “Yes, they take too long”, I would HIGHLY recommend that you want “EPCOT: Becoming” on Disney+ (National Geographic)!!!! I watched it last night and once you see the EXACTING detail that it took to construct Guardians, you will understand! Those ride supports had to be within MILLIMETERS on the measurements for the safety of ride track ALONE and for the safety and enjoyment of the riders! Remember folks, Disney has some to the STRICTEST rules when it comes to their rides and shows. They have some of the BEST SAFETY records when it comes to their rides and shows! So please, the next time that you complain about the timelines of construction or re-imagining, they are taking your safety and enjoyment into consideration!

The attention to detail is a Disney staple, but the pre-planning to produce a seamless transition for an old attraction to new is poorly executed. So much can be done behind the scenes and prior to shut dow is where Disney planning lacks. I do not understand the planning process when they can be working 24/7 in FL.

My issue is when something closes and it takes many years to replace it with anything. This was true of many recent;y opened/reopened spaces in EPCOT which were not complicated, safety-heightened areas. We have seen beloved attractions, restaurants, and spaces close and NOTHING for 5, 10 years or even more. Also, per another one of your recent articles, when are the nighttime parades coming back? Those were some of the most magical parts of the park. Fortunately, in the parks, we don’t feel like we’ve seen too many ‘swing and a miss’ with recent rollouts – not as bad as with the hotels – so at least the newer additions have that going for them for the most part. I just wish that there would be fewer closures that take way too long for something to replace them (or are never replaced with anything). There are also major fan favorites, like Stitch, that are going completely unrecognized in the parks except when it comes to merch.
