Disney World has seen a lot of changes over the last month or so, and it is hard to keep up!
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened at the end of June, and now you can go down to the Bayou with Tiana and all her friends in Frontierland. Also, in Frontierland, the Country Bear Jamboree re-opened with a brand new show! The most significant change that hit across the entire resort was that we said goodbye to Genie+ and hello to Lightning Lane Multi and Single Pass. With this new pay-to-skip-the-line system, changes came to the My Disney Experience app.
Lightning Lane Multi Pass replaced Genie+ on July 24th. This change now allows hotel guests to book their Lightning Lane selections seven days in advance, and non-resort guests can book three days in advance. Tiers were also re-introduced with this new system, and when you initially book, you can choose three rides all in the same park: one from tier one and two from tier two. You can select three from tier two if you do not select a tier one ride.
Lighting Lane Single Pass works the same way that Individual Lightning Lane did, but now you can book in advance following the same rules of seven days before for hotel guests and three days before for non-hotel guests.
The changes were rolled out around a week ago, and we wanted to see what you, our awesome readers, had to say about this My Disney Experience app change.
Some people really like this change. For example, a reader shared that with the new system, it is much easier to get rides that were once hard to get, like Slinky Dog Dash.
The Biggest Lightning Lane Mistakes
The frustrations outweighed the positives, one reader shared that “Modifying existing lightning lanes is very confusing….how the screen is set up, etc. it doesn’t make sense.” Another reader also said, “It just doesn’t jive well with park hopping. I wish [you could] select your PM park, you could stack during the day, or at least book one by one in the park you’re in.
Many readers also shared that they do not like that they have to learn a new system and feel that they have to plan out their vacation too far in advance like they once did with FastPass+, but this time you have to pay for it. Some readers finally mastered Genie+ and now learning a new system seems overwhelming.
The Trick to Getting the BEST Lightning Lane Reservations
Another reader shared that they feel like they are paying for a worse system and also said “ You can’t stack like you could with Genie. With Genie+, we could ride at least 9-12 rides, and now most things are gone by midday. I’m not even looking forward to our trip anymore. I can’t fathom how anyone thinks this is better. This is the result of people complaining because they simply didn’t know how to make Genie work for them, and now we all have to suffer.”
It seems that our readers are not too happy with this change, but it is still the first week of this new system, and the kinks are being worked out. We made sure to be in the parks the day the system rolled out and tried it for ourselves. We will continue to test and try different strategies to see what works best.

We are going next Saturday the 10th, so I booked our lightning lanes yesterday. As someone who is a planner , lol, I personally love it, however, I did spend a good amount of money which I do NOT love. Ugh. Just for peace of mind. I’m also park hopping, so I’m hoping that there will be good options available for other parks later in the day.
I’m personally a fan and would rather not stress out the day of, but I guess we’ll see!! 🙂
