A lot of things can happen that can impact your day in Disney World.
For example, bad weather can close rides, cancel entertainment, and more (it’s also why we tell you to ALWAYS pack rain gear). Sometimes, rides have technical issues and close while those issues are fixed behind the scenes. Sometimes, things just happen, and we don’t know why, but something odd was going on in Magic Kingdom this morning, resulting in the cancelation of two cavalcades.
We visited Liberty Square this morning and witnessed a rather strange sight around Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe (one of our favorite shops in Magic Kingdom). The whole back area, including the meet-and-greet gazebo, was roped off, and some kind of aggressive cleanup effort was underway. We asked Cast Members about what had happened, but they weren’t forthcoming with information. We will say that we saw an industrial spray bottle, unlike what we typically see for used for spills and messes.
We did notice that there was an odor in the area. Not to be too graphic, but the smell was described as “deep and rich and not pleasant (sorta like a bad coffee smell).”

Before our minds imagined the worst (okay, how can we not with the whole river of poop lore in Liberty Square), we also visited Frontierland and noticed that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was closed. Now, we’re not sure if these two things are related, but we’re just laying out that information for you.
However, Cast Members did inform us that two cavalcades had been canceled this morning due to whatever this substance is, but that they were hoping that the Festival of Fantasy parade this afternoon would still go on. The only way it would not go on, we were told, is if it rains, in which case, we’d get the Rainy Day Cavalcade.
So in case you’re visiting Magic Kingdom today, things seem to be all set for this afternoon and back to normal. We’ll let you know if anything else comes up.
In the meantime, stay tuned to DFB for more.

Yes, we were there and surprised we could not go through the area after we rode Haunted Mansion. Had to walk around the castle and through Adventure Land to get to Tiana’s.
