First of all, Hurricane Debby has been causing a band of storms to ripple throughout Florida recently. In Central Florida, we’re expecting a day full of thunderstorms and heavy winds. Multiple counties are currently under a tornado watch until 4PM this afternoon. If you’re taking a vacation in Orlando or visiting the theme parks, this could possibly affect your plans.
The National Hurricane Center expects that Hurricane Debby will bring major flooding over the southeastern United States in the coming days. Current projections show the hurricane cutting across Florida to hit along the coastline of Georgia and South Carolina through Thursday. It may move inland along the border of North Carolina and South Carolina on Friday.
UPDATE: After making landfall in Florida, Hurricane Debby was downgraded to Tropical Storm status.
Keep in mind that hazardous weather conditions can occur outside of the cone of the storm, like we’re seeing in Central Florida currently. Surrounding areas may encounter dangerous winds, heavy thunderstorms, and possible flooding.
Currently, the storm is affecting travel plans for many, including causing flight delays and cancelations at airports across the southeast. If you’re planning on traveling in the coming days, you’ll want to keep a close eye on the weather forecast to determine if it’s safe to make it to your destination.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on the conditions and update you if there are any major changes, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest news and information. Stay safe out there!
