Are you going to be staying at a Disney World hotel soon?
We love staying at the hotels on the Disney World property. There’s nothing like the immersion and the perks you get from being so close to areas like the parks, the other resort hotels, and Disney Springs! Talking about the hotels, there’s this trend we’ve been noticing about the hotel lobbies specifically and we wanted to pick your brains to find out how you felt about them! Well, we asked and you delivered!
We reached out to our followers on Facebook to ask: “Do you think Disney World hotel lobbies have become smaller and LESS grand?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!
Now, let’s dive into some of your top responses!
The “Yes and I don’t like it” Camp
First up, we’ve got a solid group of you who think that Disney World’s hotel lobbies are 100% getting smaller and less grand.
To this point, DFB reader Patrick, started off the conversation by sharing, “It’s not what I think, it’s what is. All the newer Disney property are low on theming with small lobbies and minimal decor. They don’t differ much from corporate chain hotels.” And he’s not alone. Jonathan chimed with, “I feel like there’s a trend of them becoming more corporate and less themed and that is a terrible thing.”
Then we’ve got Sally, who added, “If you look at the Riviera, I would have to say yes.” Last up, we’ve got Jodi who mentioned, “Yes but it seems to be what younger people prefer. My favorite is Contemporary but my kids prefer Riviera. Things change, I can roll with it.”
The “No, They’re Just Right” Crew
Next up, there’s a sizeable group of you who think Disney World is doing just fine when it comes to their hotel lobbies.
First up, DFB reader Sheryl shared, “Animal Kingdom Lodge has an amazing lobby.” Shawn added, “I think they still have that charm. The Riviera has a nice little lobby that matches the resorts vibe.” Then Tamara shared, “Not really. They seem to have all the amenities that are needed. Very easy to get around to different areas that you need to. I don’t think they have changed in years only seasonal decorations.”
We have Jeanine wrapping this one up with, “They are fine in size. They need space. I see people and sometimes a lot of people depending on the time of year and the weather sitting a spending time in the lobbies of the deluxe resorts and at times in the smaller lobbies at the moderate. Animal kingdom and wilderness lodge have beautiful lobbies to read, relax or just enjoy a fireplace.”
The “Maybe/Don’t Care” Squad
Lastly, we have the group of you square in the middle when talking about the Disney World hotel lobbies.
For example, we had DFB reader Amy share, “Possibly, but i don’t spend very much time there. Would rather they expand other areas of the resorts than have a grand lobby that I spend maybe 30 min of my trip in.” Then Geoff added, “I don’t really care about the “GRANDNESS” of the hotel lobby. Get me checked in OR get me to the elevator (to my room) quicker… before me feet give out; after a long day hitting the parks!”
Juli continued the conversation with, “Fort Wilderness is technically not considered as a hotel. As long as the drive thru check in is kept and Disney doesn’t get the idea of closing Fort Wilderness to build another hotel, I don’t care what lobby looks. I’m happy with what Fort Wilderness currently offers. 👍” And Jamie brought us home with what might possibly be the best response of all, “I don’t care how GRAND they are as long as they keep that amazing smell! 😊” Well said, Jamie. Well said.
Those were just some of your thoughts on whether Disney World hotel lobbies have become smaller and less grand, and we want to hear more from you! Until then, keep it right here for all the latest Disney news! Also, follow us on Facebook to join in on the next discussion.

Patrick M. Barnett says
I remember the nostalgia I felt when first visiting Port Orleans Riverside, seeing the names of cities above the columns in the lobby including the city where my father was born, Caruthersville.
Themeing like this is integral to the atmosphere of a Disney resort.

Generations differ. I’m a Boomer and I loved the Grand Floridian Lobby. You can sit and listen to piano playing, people watching and just enjoy the ambiance. It’s nothing like home! I’m now a DVC member at The Boardwalk and I enjoy their lobby too. The beautiful horse fixture over the merry go round. The comfortable sofas. The rocking chairs on the porch. What’s that saying? Slow down and smell the roses.
