Sure, Avengers Campus is already home to a flying Spider-Man and ridiculously sized snacks, but soon it’ll also be home to…KING THANOS?!
That’s right folks, Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure park is getting a NEW Avengers-themed attraction as part of an upcoming expansion. You’ll battle villains (including King Thanos) from everywhere (and “everywhen”) alongside the Avengers. We’ve already seen a peek of concept art for the attraction in the past, but now Disney has revealed some NEW details you need to know about.
During D23 — The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024, Disney revealed a NEW look at two pieces for the attraction. First up, we got another look at the design for King Thanos. Anyone else just feel a little bit nervous to face this villain?!
For context, in this ride, we’ll get a “multi-world experience” which is where King Thanos comes into play. He is a variant of the villain we all know from the Avengers film, but in this reality…he won. 😳
At D23, Disney also shared a new look at the attraction’s ride vehicle — specifically a maquette was available to view.
According to Disney, the vehicle itself is actually “key” to the story of the ride. In the ride, you’ll join the Avengers on a “multi-world mission spanning destinations across the universe.” You’re able to travel to these unique destinations because — thanks to collaborations between inventors at Avengers Campus — the Avengers have been able to create a new vehicle that’s “capable of jumping between these worlds and even realities — on planet Earth and beyond.”
Disney had previously noted that the NEW ride vehicle would feature “a design that combines elements of Tony Stark’s time-suits with Xandarian jump points and Wakandan technology.”
The description below the maquette notes that guests will feel like they’re “flying alongside the Avengers.” Interesting…
Some folks have drawn comparisons between this ride vehicle and the one utilized in the new Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure attraction in Tokyo Disney (Fantasy Springs)…
…and/or The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal Orlando.
Some speculate that this could be an indication that the new Multiverse ride will make strong use of screens (as those two other attractions do). We’re still awaiting exact details as to just what this attraction will involve. Disney did previously share, however, that they looked forward to sharing more about the “physical worlds for this epic attraction and are excited to bring them to life with a blend of large-scale built environments and immersive media.”
Thus far, what we do know is that this ride will be a “family adventure,” where you team up with the Avengers and their allies to battle villains in a “multi-world experience.”
We could, however, get more details during the Disney Experiences showcase at D23, which is taking place on August 10th. We’ll be reporting ALL of the latest details from that showcase and the entire D23 event so stay tuned for all the latest news!
