We are freaking out, and we knew we needed to share it with you as soon as possible, so buckle up, you are in for some surprises!
We are currently at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, soaking in everything this event has to offer. We had the chance to listen to the Disney Experiences Showcase which highlights new experiences coming to the Disney parks and is being led by Disney Parks Chair Josh D’Amaro. We were expecting some big news, and they have delivered!

We just got some HUGE news about the Magic Kingdom expansion. Disney has now shared NEW information for a “reimagined section of Frontierland,” and we’re so excited to share it with you. Disney has announced that a new area inspired by the movie Cars is coming to Frontierland!

The cars are leaving Radiator Springs to explore the West and into new frontiers. There will be two NEW Cars attractions! One will take you on a race through the mountains and wild terrain along mountain trails, dodging geysers and splashing through mud holes.

The second ride will geared toward smaller racers and will be fun for the whole family!

Construction on this new area in Frontierland will begin early in 2025! Here’s a closer look at the first concept art for the new ride. We don’t have an exact location for this big addition, but we do know that it is coming to Frontierland. That looks like the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad mountain in the distance, don’t you think?

Since I am not sure when (or if, I suppose) we will ever get to Disneyland in CA, I’m really glad to see Cars getting some attractions in WDW. Not sure about how I feel about it being in MK, but I guess that doesn’t matter lol. Hopefully it will be integrated well and we won’t have to lose too much in the making.
This is the best DFB ever! I am so excited about all the new rides. My grandson is a CARS nut! Can’t even count the number of times he has seen the movie and he has so many CARS tee shirts. I can’t wait to see his excitement when he visits.
P.S. I have to save this DFB Sunday email so I can read it over and over again.
Please tell me they are not re-theming Big Thunder!
Please don’t tell us that they are changing Big Thunder to Cars!! I’ve never been on Big Thunder (next time maybe!) but to change such an icon would NOT bode well for Disney. They already changed one attraction but they can’t change Big Thunder.
I understand now that this is going to result in removal of Tom Sawer’s Island and Rivers of America. If so, with them goes the entire Frontierland Americana theme. The Liberty Square-Frontierland area has always been my favorite place in the parks. It also adds fuel to the criticism that current Disney leadership is contemptuous of Walt’s legacy.
With so much other land available it is going to be annoying to hear when Disney starts to throw pixie dust on this.
I love Cars Land in CA but I don’t think it belongs in MK Frontierland. Please don’t touch the Rivers of America! That adds so much to the park! If Cars goes into MK please put it in the Beyond BTM section.
They’re going to kill Big Thunder, aren’t they?
Do these people even understand their own properties? How do modern race cars fit into the frontier? They’re destroying the theming to shoe-horn in an IP. They must be trying to shred Walt’s legacy. No other explanation. No one is accidentally this stupid.
With 47 square miles or, about 30,000 acres Disney could build several new parks in available space. This would help address overcrowding of existing parks, use lessons learned engineering for a better customer experience when developing a new park or parks from the ground up, have no impact on existing operations and customer experience. Disneyland has 500 acres but, Anaheim controls the purse strings. I vote for expansion/addition vs remove/replace.
Big Thunder could very easily become a backdrop for Cars, the Haunted mansion transition will not blend In as easily. Help them Walt, for they know not what they do…
