It has been a HUGE weekend full of announcements and sneak peeks at what is coming for The Walt Disney Company at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event!
We are so grateful to have been a part of it all. We finished off the weekend by attending the Disney Legends ceremony on Sunday evening, and it was a beautiful celebration of some fantastic people.
This year’s Disney Legends ceremony at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event honored 14 new Disney Legends. Disney Legends are people who have left an “indelible mark on the company’s historic legacy.”

During the ceremony, the following people were honored as Disney Legends: Colleen Atwood, Angela Bassett, Martha Blanding, James L. Brooks, James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, Miley Cyrus, Steve Ditko, Harrison Ford, Mark Henn, Frank Oz, Kelly Ripa, Joe Rohde, and John Williams.

The ceremony was hosted by Ryan Seacrest with an introduction by Bob Iger. The first Disney Legend was honored 37 years ago, and this year’s ceremony was the largest one yet. Each of the 14 Disney Legends were honored by a video tribute and guest appearances from various celebrities and Disney Cast Members. As well, some Disney Legends were even honored with musical performances. The best part is that you can stream the FULL ceremony on Disney+. The event can be streamed on Disney+ beginning Monday, August 12th at 5PM ET.
For example, Steve Ditko was honored with a presentation from Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president and Joe Rhode was honored with video message from Jane Goodall and a performance from Walt Disney World’s Tam Tam Drummers of Harambe. James Cameron had a special video message from Kate Winslet and his award was presented by Zoë Saldaña. Angela Basset was honored with a presentation from Ryan Coogler and the Dora Milaje from Marvel’s Black Panther.
Each of the Disney Legends were honored in their own, unique way and it was an incredible evening celebrating some amazing people. Now that these new Disney Legends have been inducted, there are now a total of 318 Disney Legends that have been named.
We had so much fun hearing from many amazing people and there was lots of entertainment! We loved seeing Jodi Benson, Paige O’Hara, Linda Larkin, Ming-Na Wen, and Anika Noni Rose on-stage together to honor Mark Henn and a full orchestra to honor John Williams. But there was so many surprises and heart-warming moments throughout the evening.
