Things change in Disney World — ALL the time, and they’re going to keep on changing.
In Magic Kingdom alone, we’ve recently seen the opening of a brand new ride, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the opening of some new shops, and the reopening of an updated Country Bear Jamboree. The park is also getting a new Cars-themed land and a Villains land, but the changes don’t stop there. Recently, Peter Pan’s Flight in Fantasyland temporarily closed, but it has since reopened — and the ride has changed.
Peter Pan’s Flight has reopened, but something new can be found on the ride. We decided to take a flight over the rooftops of London and to Neverland and immediately noticed that the scene with the Native Americans has been updated. Here’s what the old scene looked like. As you can see, the figures are stern and a little cartoonish.
Here’s what the new scene looks like. The characters have a more realistic appearance and the scene itself has changed. Now, it shows Tiger Lily and her grandmother performing a dance by the fire as if in celebration.
Here’s a video so you can get a closer look at this new scene.

Peter Pan’s Flight is a classic Disney ride — the one in Disney World is based on the ride that first opened in Disneyland on that park’s opening day in 1955. The original ride was based on Disney’s animated film Peter Pan, which released in 1953, based on the book by J.M. Barrie. Disney World’s version of Peter Pan’s Flight features an interactive queue where you can visit the home of the Darlings, including the nursery.

Wow an update that actually looks good. Peter pans flight is my favorite ride I am glad they didn’t trash it
Denise F says
Ugh! Looks nothing like the movie characters anymore! Disney please stop these unnecessary changes! It’s a cartoon for crying out loud! Now it looks like “real” people and is out of place within the ride. Put things back the way they were.
Pris says
I’m so sick of Disney trying to be PC on everything they do!! No wonder they are struggling financially. They are doing it to themselves especially with that Kennedy woman steering the company off the cliff!
K Parker says
This is one of the dumbest changes they have made. These characters have nothing to do with the movie. If they were that concerned about offending people with the original characters, they should have just removed the entire scene. This change makes no sense in this ride, which is retelling of the movie.
JT says
I think this change is both reasonable and a tribute to native Americans. Good job, Disney!
Tammy says
Does it look a lot different from/more modern than the rest of the ride? I’m curious if they will update some of the other scenes in the future for a cohesive appearance. It looks great, though! Can’t wait to check it out!
John says
So the only part of the ride that is not a scene from the movie. This company is unbelievable in their ability to screw things up. Got I hate Iger and all his woke trash!
Craig says
Thank you, Disney, for the sensitivity today in better portraying our indigenous heritage from this point on. Excellent update. I can’t wait to see it in person.
Eloni says
Enjoy your 50 minute wait time to see the “update”.
Greg Carlson says
Well said John

With all of the complaints on here, I felt compelled to actually comment for once. This scene is in the movie so it’s not something that’s going to be totally removed. Therefore it makes sense to update it realistically and not leave it as a stereotype. One commenter was angry because they were all cartoons anyway, as if that was a reason for leaving this particular scene alone. But what they don’t seem to realize is that all of the other cartoon characters do not have any cartoonish stereotypes, so they did not need updating. I think the new figures fit in quite nicely with the tone and visuals of the ride.
Ryan says
Looks nothing like the characters in the movie!!! Walt would NEVER approve.
Twilliam says
What about those stereotypical views of England’s kids wearing glasses, and please don’t get me started at the stereotypical vision of crocodiles by the evil Disney people of our past. If you are constantly looking to be offended, I guarantee you will always be offended.
Matthew Brewster says
Great! Now, they will be Refurbishing the Jungle Cruise. What I keep hoping for is that WDI FINALLY address what has been ignored since 1971- how guests sit in the boat! I keep telling the CMs there, during my biweekly visits, that guests should be facing FORWARD, so they can see the jungle- instead of the guests facing them!!!
RandyC says
Compared to other “updates,” the change to Peter Pan’s Flight is not the worst thing Disney has done lately. I think it was largely unnecessary. I agree with others that this change takes away from the authentic alignment with the movie. I agree with John’s sentiments concerning Iger and the harmful changes Iger has made and directed.
Matt O says
A private company changed visuals that were no longer in line with the company’s values. They didn’t erase the scene, they just altered the imagery to be less like the stereotypes that existed in 1953. More than 90% of that ride remains unchanged. It’s likely many guests won’t even notice what changed. This is a silly hill to die on, y’all.
Pris says
I’m disagree, Matt. That’s how things change. In small steps so people don’t object as much then before you know it you don’t even recognize what the original concept was.
RandyC says
You made me laugh today, Matt. Thank you!
