Disney has created several new Star Wars series for Disney+.
The Mandalorian has seen tons of success even with a new spin-off movie in development. Other shows like Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and more have also been wildly popular as they follow new and old characters through the stories of a galaxy far, far away. However, not all of the shows were as well received which is likely why the most recent Star Wars series is being canceled after only one season.
The Acolyte followed the story of the rise of the Sith long before the setting of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. But now, after only one season of the show, which saw some backlash and a drop in views after the first episode, will be ending, according to Variety.
The series followed twin sisters Osha and Mae who were separated as children and led to believe the other had been killed. One trained with the Jedi who had saved her and the other trained with Sith. You follow the story to learn who the Sith is that was controlling the sister, and the season finale ends on a massive cliffhanger and set up for a second season that led fans to believe more of the story would be coming. However, that is not the case as Lucasfilm has pulled the plug.
Backlash came at the show around the timeline being outside of the core timeline of the franchise along with the challenging of the typical Jedi beliefs and perceptions. Many people were also unhappy to see an inclusive cast and characters including LGBTQ themes such as the twin sisters’ two mothers. There was praise as well for the show, however it seems the negative attention outweighed that.
Although this show is ending, a new Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, will be coming to Disney+ on December 3rd, which appears to be vastly different from The Acolyte. Andor season 2 will hit Disney+ in 2025, and a second season of Ahsoka is currently in development. Both of these shows saw high success and praise after their first seasons.
This is just the latest show to be canceled on Disney+. We’ll be watching for more announcements to be made for other Disney+ shows, in the meantime, keep following DFB!

Jedi can see into the future, even if it’s only momentarily. With this in mind the premise that a Jedi would kill someone because the Jedi mistook the actions of someone as one of aggression is just ridiculous.
The biggest problem that Disney has with Star Wars is that they either recycle stories already told, except stick in a female where the male used to be or they ignore Star Wars History, beliefs and timelines when writing new stories so they don’t actually FIT into the ACTUAL Star Wars Universe.
As for the LGBTQ aspect, if TWO THIRDS of your market or audience is White Men, then WHY would you try to make a version of Star Wars that DOESN’T appeal to THAT demographic? That’s like me trying to sell a Christian Mini-Series to the audience of Rupaul’s Drag Race. Not exactly going to be received too well by THAT audience.

The show was canceled because it was a terrible show that was only interested in pushing an agenda. None of the interviews with the show creators mentioned anything about the show, it was all the same identity politics crap.

“Many people were also unhappy to see an inclusive cast and characters including LGBTQ themes such as the twin sisters’ two mothers. ” If Disney is truly canceling something do to having an inclusive cast and LGBTQ themes then they suck. I thought Disney was all about being inclusive and supporting the LGBTQ community. Why would that be a reason?

Did not like how they portrayed the Jedi as schemers, liars and selfish. Disney seems to be trying hard to please a segment of the population that is not their core audience. They should learn from other companies mistakes who tried to move away from their audience that got them to where they are.
I watch all the D+ series on Star Wars and love all but this one. Won’t be missed.
