Magic Kingdom has some BIG changes in store for it in the coming years!
Magic Kingdom will be getting a new nighttime parade called “Disney Starlight” in 2025, and Disney has also announced that a Villains Land AND a Cars Land will be coming to Magic Kingdom. Disney fans have been very divided over the new Cars Land, especially the proposed location. But what will the impact of this Frontierland change really be?
At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, it was announced that a Cars Land will be coming to Magic Kingdom. Construction on this new land is expected to begin in early 2025. The Cars Land will be coming to Frontierland, and Disney hopes that the land will put guests ““in the driver’s seat as [they]—quite literally—explore a new frontier in Frontierland.”
This new land will feature two attractions. The first attraction will have you racing through mountains and along wild terrains, while attempting to dodge geysers and splashing through mud holes. The second attraction will be more family-friendly and geared towards smaller racers.
The location of the new Cars Land could result in some rather odd views. When comparing the concept art to the current map of Magic Kingdom, this is likely where we will see the new Cars Land being built. It will be right next to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Frontierland. However, with the layout of Magic Kingdom, it will also be located RIGHT next to the Haunted Mansion in Liberty Square.
Currently, the Haunted Mansion has a wonderfully spooky and mysterious vibe. As you move through the queue, you overlook the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. However, with the new Cars Land, does that mean we will now be looking at cars speeding by through the dirt?
That would definitely ruin some of the ambiance of Haunted Mansion. The sounds of revving engines will likely take you out of the storyline of Haunted Mansion, and seeing the Cars attractions from the queue would be…interesting. Based on the concept art, it is likely the new land will be in close proximity to Haunted Mansion. However, we are hoping that Disney will work hard to make sure the ambiance of both Haunted Mansion and the Cars Land are maintained.
It does look like a fair amount of greenery is going to be added throughout the area, so hopefully that will help with what you will be able to see and hear from Haunted Mansion. We won’t know for sure how the Cars Land will affect Haunted Mansion until it has been built though. We are just really hoping that our beloved Haunted Mansion doesn’t turn into a car show.
Not to mention, this Frontierland overhaul will also result in a lot of construction in the area. While we understand that change is inevitable, we are still a bit worried with how much of an affect the construction will have on the ambiance of Haunted Mansion.

Harold Coombs III says
Convert the queue for the Haunted Mansion into an underground spooky catacombs walk to preserve the spooky.
Pris says
Good idea, Harold, OR don’t mess with what is there & add cars, etc to currently unused land so we don’t have to endure construction walls for the next 5yrs!!!
Tammy says
This just doesn’t make any sense. I wish they would put it somewhere else and leave this area alone.
Keith W says
Such a shame to remove this area for the Cars rides, they will probably be terrific and we will all think what was all the fuss about but the river boat and the island feel like core park features.
RandyC says
As much as I know the Cars attraction will be great, it’s location still bothers me, considering what we are giving up in Americana and aesthetics. I keep hoping the location part of this plan is just a very bad dream.
Tracy says
If Disney really cared about ambiance, they’d leave Tom Sawyer Island and the Riverboat alone and find a more appropriate location for Cars Land.
RandyC says
I think Liberty Square will be the next area to be destroyed, I mean, remodeled. The underlying history, beauty, and theme of Liberty and America’s colonial period seems so antithetical to Bob Iger’s view of the World.
Sheba Wedepohl says
Walt would not approve of the current plans to remove the Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island. This was his favorite period of history and he “loved” New Orleans-which a Haunted Mansion is something expected there with all those plantations. Although Walt was progressive and loved progress, changes to his initial plans would not appeal to him. Please reconsider your choice of location. The change will mess with the aesthetic appeal of the Haunted Mansion as will any construction being worked on in this area.
While voicing my concerns, please consider placing more seating around the park. Not everybody ride rides and enjoy people watching of families having fun. Walt intended a place where kids could play while parents and grandparents watched. Nowadays parents go with the kids but sometimes, parents have sleeping children and need a place to stop while the child rests. Plus grandparents might need a place to rest as well.
