Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has been under construction for quite a while now, but we’re getting closer and closer to it finally being complete!
Later this year, the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows will open, and while Disney has shared updates here and there, we’ve been keeping an eye out for more news about this new spot. We’ve seen a sneak peek at the rooms and had a few details about a new dining location, but now we officially know more!
The Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will officially be opening to guests on December 17th, 2024 — and we are not-so-patiently counting down the days. Disney just shared more details about the new dining location that will be part of this new expansion — so let’s get into it!
The Wailulu Bar & Grill will “boast breathtaking views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Cinderella’s Castle at Magic Kingdom Park.” According to Disney, this will be a casual walk-up pool bar and grill, and will feature an all-day menu for lunch and dinner. There will also be specialty coffee and on-the-go morning pastries available for breakfast.
We don’t have a full menu just yet, but we are super excited to see what sort of items will be on the menu throughout the day here!
Disney shared a sneak peek at this restaurant during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event and we were speculating as to what sort of restaurant this might be based on concept art. Originally we thought it might be a table service restaurant with outdoor seating, but Wailulu Bar & Grill sounds like it’ll be a pool bar!
Of course, it’s possible that the outdoor seating will be for the pool bar while the indoor area (which looks more upscale, if you ask us) could be for another restaurant Disney has yet to reveal. But for now, we’ll be waiting until we get the full menus for Wailulu Bar & Grill.
Part of the Disney Vacation Club, the 10-story Island Tower will feature rooms of different sizes to accommodate different-sized parties. Of course, like its predecessor, The Polynesian Village Resort, these rooms will take inspiration from the Polynesian Islands and even feature custom artwork from Moana!
These rooms were also designed with sustainability in mind! The rugs and carpets inside the rooms are made from primarily recycled bottles! Disney Vacation Club tries to make its properties feel like home and offer all the amenities you would need to feel like you are there. You can book your stay now!
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest news and updates from Disney World, so make sure you stay tuned to DFB for more!

You have to laugh. Very big on sustainability in their rooms yet planning on tearing out the RoA for more concrete. Get rid of the water and ecosystem and living space for various creatures and add more hot concrete space. But let’s make sure our flooring is sustainable. You can’t make this stuff up.
And while we’re adding a new restaurant to the hotel, why not make it a luau instead? Bring back the Spirit of Aloha luau – nobody wanted to see that go.
RandyC says
We are looking forward to seeing the final product, after final painting, accessories and landscaping. We rode past it on the Monorail last month and this new building was not as impressive as these artist renderings, but it was still under construction. I hope it is spectacular and somehow makes up for demolishing and ending the Luau. That was a great dinner show and very educational.

Okay, this looks like any nice upscale hotel……where is the disney magic, no where that’s where. I want to feel the feeling when I walk into the grand flo or the beach club or the boardwalk…….
WHERE IS THE MAGIC?
Heidi says
Agree with Laurel, bring back the Spirit of Aloha! I am happy to see the gardens included – miss the lush tropical lobby the Polynesian used to have!
RandyC says
Heidi is right. Anyone else remember the waterfall that greeted you when you walked in the lobby? That was Disney magic!

Suzanne,
This is the DVC resort at Poly so it’s not going to be themed like other resorts.
Suzanne coppola says
What?…….look at all of the, others except for the Rivera…….they all feel like disney, why wouldn’t they since you have to be quite a disney fan to shell out the bucks for the dvc membership
Kenp says
Fortunately. I bought my DVC memberships when points were very inexpensive. I just hope the DVC rate is not pointed to the sky. DVC is not the bargain it once was, but your points aren’t either. Interesting, I hope they put some Disney touches on it, I don’t care for the Moana stuff, buy a poly themed resort would be nice. Like a high end Marriott Resortt
