If you thought we were done eating our way around the 2024 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival, you would be wrong!
Now that this deliciously entertaining festival has officially begun, we’ve started making our way around the food booths with tasty items, checking out the merchandise, and figuring out which concerts we just can’t miss. We know it sounds overwhelming, but we’re here to help ensure you know what to get and skip. And now we’re heading to one spot in particular — the Australia booth — to give you the FULL scoop! Is it worth a try? Let’s find out!
Menu
Over at the Australia booth, you’ll find a variety of available items. All the items are returning this year, including the Grilled Bushberry shrimp with Pepper, Onion, Snap Peas, and Coconut-Chili Sauce, the Roasted Lamb Chop with Mint Pesto, and Potato Crunchies, and the Lamington Yellow Cake with raspberry filling topped with chocolate and coconut. It’s time to get meaty.
Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, let’s dive into the food itself!
Eats
First up, we tried the Grilled Bushberry Shrimp with Pepper, Onion, Snap Peas and Coconut-Chili Sauce for $7. In the past, this entree had a bit of a kick, and we really loved how everything went together with the spicy shrimp flavor. Especially the snap peas!
This year, we thought this was delicious once again! The rub on the shrimp is the really good part, as it’s a little spicy, but also a little sweet from the berry. You’ll definitely need to have some tolerance for spice before ordering this because we could still feel the heat 10 minutes after eating it. The one downside to this item is that the texture of the shrimp was a little fishy — because of that, it was probably our least favorite thing at this booth.
Next, we had the Roasted Lamb Chop with Mint Pesto and Vinegar Potato chips for $8.75. This has been one of our favorites at the festival. It’s juicy and flavorful, and as a bonus — it’s also gluten and wheat-friendly.
Even if you don’t love lamb, you might like this dish. The lamb is SO tender and good, but the mint chutney and the salty potato chips just take it to the next level texture and flavor-wise. Our one caution here is that the mint is a pretty strong flavor, so you may want to avoid it if that’s not your thing.
And finally, we finished things off with something sweet — Lamington. This is a Yellow Cake with Raspberry Filling with Chocolate and Coconut for $4.75. When we had this last year, the cakes were really dense, while also being incredibly moist. Though this cake has a lot going on, this tends to be a dessert of balanced flavors, no one flavor is too strong or overwhelming. Let’s see if the same holds true for this year!
Once again, this was moist and dense, while also somehow being light and delicious. It’s not flashy or fancy, but it’s a classic good dessert option, so if you’ve got the room for it, you might want to try it.
So what about the beverages?
Drinks
We typically see a selection of beer and wines here. Grab the Yalumba ‘The Y Series’ Viognier, South Australia for $7.50 as part of the wine flight. We tried this as part of a flight last year when it was new and thought it was quite dry, and by the time we got to drink it, it was incredibly warm from the Florida heat.
Once again, this was fairly dry, but it also has a nice floral taste and a hint of sweetness.
New to the booth this year is a new white and red wine. If you’re a fan of white wine, you can grab the Bulletin Place Sauvignon Blanc as part of the wine flight.
This wine was very acidic and tart with some strong apple notes. This was quite dry overall, but paired well with the shrimp. If you don’t like acidic wines though, this won’t be for you.
Or, if you’re more of a red wine fan, pick up the Fowles Wine Farm to Table Shiraz as part of the wine flight as well.
This was incredibly dark and very peppery. It kind of dries out your whole mouth when you drink it and sits on your tongue. This wine pairs nicely with the lamb though.
So, what’s the verdict on Australia this year?
OVERALL
Australia has some delicious eats as always! We’re continually impressed by this booth year after year and it really is a sleeper hit — overshadowed by longtime favorites nearby like Canada or the brand new booths also near the front of World Showcase. The eats are all pretty great, and the wine flight comes with three VERY different beverages. You’d probably be hard-pressed to find someone who liked all three wines because they’re so contrasting.
That’s it for this booth, but there’s a LOT more where that came from!
