Three words: French. Fry. FLIGHT. And you may already know what that means…
It means we’re back at The Fry Basket, baby! This Festival Marketplace Food Booth does one thing and one thing only when it comes to food items: varieties of FRIES. And while the food menu may look familiar to you if you’ve ever visited this booth at the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, you’ll spy some new drinks to go along with ’em. So, let’s check out what’s back and what’s NEW as we bring you our full review of The Fry Basket!
Menu
“Can I get fries with that?” Why, YES YOU CAN! Especially if what you’re wanting is fries with… more fries! That’s the gist of the returning Fry Flight, which serves up a trio of Truffle-Parmesan Fries, Barbeque Bacon Fries, and Sweet Potato Casserole Fries. The Adobo Yuca Fries have returned, as well.
The new drinks on the menu are the Boyd & Blair Grapefruit Mule and Collective Arts Brewing Mango-Rita Sour with Chili. Who’s ready for piles of fries??? We sure are. Let’s go!
Eats
The famous Fry Flight features Truffle-Parmesan Fries, Barbeque Bacon Fries, and Sweet Potato Casserole Fries. Altogether, the Flight is $8.00.
We’re starting with the classic Truffle-Parmesan Fries. These were super salty in the best way and incredibly rich and savory thanks to the truffle. The parmesan added a nuttiness without making these overly cheesy.
The Barbeque Bacon Fries are complete with smoked aïoli. These were probably our favorite of the flight, which kind of surprised us! The smokiness was pretty powerful and we could see how it could get out of hand. The bacon was nice and salty, too.
Finally, the Sweet Potato Casserole Fries present all of the components of the holiday classic dish — with candied pecans, toasted marshmallow cream, and bourbon maple syrup — in fry fashion! The problem with sweet potato fries is that they’re often soggy, and that was the case here too. But, the flavor was still amazing — sweet and savory and salty all at once.
The Adobo Yuca Fries with garlic-cilantro aïoli are also back as a plant-based option for $5.75. We love that the yuca is cut into large wedges — it really helps the garlic cilantro aioli have more surface area to be drizzled on. The outside was perfectly crispy while the inside was cooked well and stayed fluffy.
Onto the drinks!
Drinks
The Mule cocktail gets a citrusy twist at The Fry Basket with the new Boyd & Blair Grapefruit Mule which costs $12.00. This was… fine. It tastes just like grapefruit, and while we enjoyed it there just wasn’t a whole lot going on. Still, it was refreshing and for grapefruit or vodka fans it would probably be a good choice — it certainly packs a punch with the vodka!
Also up for grabs is the Collective Arts Brewing Mango-Rita Sour with Chili which is $5.75 for 6 ounces or $9.75 for 12 ounces. Talk about a sour beer — this was definitely that. If you don’t typically like sour beers, you probably won’t love this. But if you do — it’s REALLY good. It tastes just like fresh mango with tajin with a kind of spicy kick from the chili. It was super complex and something we’d get again.
So, is it worth a visit?
OVERALL
It’s hard to go wrong with fries of any kind — and that’s especially true at the Fry Basket booth again this year. The Adobo Yuca Fries have made our Best of the Fest list for another year in a row, and we love the new take on the mule cocktail over here. This isn’t a particularly exciting booth — it is a lot of French fries after all — but for anyone who loves potatoes and potato-adjacent fries, this is definitely worth a stop.
It’s Fry Basket time!
