Your trip to Disney World is almost here, right?!
Are you all ready? You’ve got your bags packed? Flight and hotel reservations set? You have your plan of action for once you hit the resort and the parks? And maybe the most important, how’s the budget looking? Speaking of the budget, to try and help you stay on track, we thought we’d go over some of the dumbest things people overspend on at Disney World!
Buying Bottled Water
Now before we go and get offended or think we don’t want you to drink water, hear us out. We LOVE hydration. We’re in the parks every single day of the year, rain or shine, and if there’s one thing we can tell you is that Disney World is one hot and humid place almost all year around. So, we want you to be hydrated, but buying a bottle of water is just not the move, especially since there are free refilling stations all over the parks.
All of that being said, what we HIGHLY recommend you doing is to get your own reusable water bottle.
They will come in so handy, keep you from getting overheated, and could even make for a creative souvenir like ours (we got ours signed by some of our favorite characters).
Buying FuelRods at the Parks
Now, you’re going to burn straight through your device’s power when you’re at Disney World. At this point because so much happens in the My Disney Experience app, it’s not if your phone will die but when. So, if you’re about to run out of juice and you don’t already have a portable power bank, the next best thing is to get yourself a FuelRod.
The system is great because it allows you charge your phone up and then when the rod is dead, you can swap it out for a fresh, fully charged one and keep on trucking. But here’s the thing, we’d recommend you not purchasing them at the parks, but rather get your FuelRods straight from Amazon.
This is because you can typically get a set of 2 FuelRods for the price you’d pay for 1 in the parks. They’re the same FuelRods too and can still be swapped out for fresh ones from the kiosks.
Buying Ponchos at Disney World
In addition to being a very hot and humid place, Florida is also extremely rainy (during the long rainy season), which is why you always want to come prepared.
Umbrellas are nice and all but they’re not typically very portable, so your next best bet is to use rain ponchos. Now if you’re going to buy them at Disney World, just be prepared to pay quite a markup for them.
What we recommend you doing instead is to grab some those ponchos right from Amazon because they’re typically much cheaper and of a higher quality than you’ll find at the parks.
We love our FROGG TOGGS ponchos and can’t recommend them enough as they’re lightweight, sturdy, and can fold down in their own bag which helps bringing them with you incredibly easy.
Buying MagicBands
Now this one could be a bit controversial, but buying MagicBands could be a rather quick way to overspend at Disney World.
This is mainly because you already have to do basically everything from the My Disney Experience app at Disney World, and let’s be honest, you always have your phone with you.
Also, a lot of people already wear a watch which then makes wearing a MagicBand too a bit tricky and bulky. The last thing we’d want for you is for your brand-new MagicBand to just become a novelty that collects dust on your shelf.
All of that being said, we’ll be the first to recognize that even though they aren’t strictly necessary, they can be a lot of fun to collect.
Those are just a couple of the things we see people overspending on when they’re at Disney World, but now we’d love to hear from you! Until then, we’re always keeping our eyes and ears open for all the latest Disney news, so keep following DFB for more!
