If you haven’t been to Disney World in a few years, there are quite a few new rides to check out.
From Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT (which opened in 2022) to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom (opened in 2024 and 2023, respectively), there are a couple of attractions you’ll want to add to your must-ride list. But if you’re hoping to check out TRON during your visit, we’ve got some important updates for you.
Disney World announced a few days ago that TRON Lightcycle / Run is getting rid of its virtual queue. Starting September 9th, the ride will have a standby line in addition to a Lightning Lane. So the only ways you’ll be able to ride are to wait in the standby line or purchase the Lightning Lane Single Pass.
With the virtual queue disappearing, we’re expecting TRON to have some long wait times for a little while. Typically, our advice to avoid the longest wait times would be to try and get in line for a ride either at rope drop or at the end of the night. With TRON being located in Tomorrowland, you might think to try and check it out during Early Theme Park Entry, but we’ve got a warning.
Currently, TRON Lightcycle / Run is not listed as one of the rides available during Early Theme Park Entry in Magic Kingdom. Many other attractions in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland are open at that time, but the Disney World website still lists TRON as opening with the regular park opening time. So if you’re a resort guest hoping to hop on the ride early in the AM, you might be out of luck.
Now, we still may recommend rope dropping TRON when it swaps to standby. Resort guests would be able to get into Tomorrowland 30 minutes early and wait near the ride for it to open, and then those staying off-site would be able to get in the queue once the park opens to everyone. We’ll have to wait and see what these wait times are like when the ride officially makes the switch!
We’ll be there on September 9th to keep an eye on this coaster and see what the crowds look like, so stay tuned to DFB for all the updates.

Your article says WAIT by the ride. I hope we can have an orderly line. Do you think they may actually allow us in the real lineup? Perhaps not, if they open at 9 am. Let’s not let us have a stampede when they open.

I think that once again resort guests hardly have any perks . O yes we get a free bus ride , but to not allow those guests to ride Tron half hr before opening is pretty bad

It would be good if they opened at rope drop so numbers could be split between Tron and 7DMT.

Tron was lots of fun and the first time was the thrill of the unknown. I was worried about my back and hips being uncomfortable on the lean forward motorcycle type seat but had no problems. After the first time and watching others I hold my hands up most of the time. There is a dip when you are inside that can make your chest go down and hit. Also the hand grips are rather rough and the ride is too short which everyone already knows. Still a very fun ride.
