When Is the New Monsters, Inc Land Opening in Disney World?

Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World is preparing to open a BRAND NEW THEMED LAND featuring those lovable monsters from MONSTERS, INC.!

That’s right…the monsters are inviting YOU to Monstropolis, where they need human laughter to power the city and keep it running.

In August 2024, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro made the official announcement as he shared, “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley. You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park.

Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

The story of the land will pick up after the events of the popular Pixar film, and humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. Disney shares that here, “you’ll be able to stroll the streets alongside some of your favorite monsters” and even visit the Laugh Factory!

“You’ll be able to see the sights, hear the laughs and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski — via a door!” Oh, did I mention that this statement is in reference to a brand new Monsters, Inc. roller coaster?

Monsters, Inc. Land will feature Disney’s VERY FIRST suspended coaster, which “will put you right in the middle of the monster action. Just be sure to fill out your paperwork! Roz is always watching…”

Construction on the new land will begin in 2026, and we’re so excited! But don’t you worry… if you’re feeling a teeny bit frightened about the presence of monsters in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, just remember the Monsters, Inc. motto: “We Scare Because WE CARE!”

Disney hasn’t released an official timeline for when the new land will open, but we will be on the lookout for more information and clues based on permits and patents for the land. The transformation will likely take a few years. The latest full land transformation we have to go off of is Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. From start to finish, that transformation took about four years to build after construction started. So we wouldn’t be shocked if we were looking at a 2030 opening year — but we will see!
