One thing The Walt Disney Company does is embrace other industries, especially fashion.
Disney is always teaming up with fashion designers for clothing, accessories, shoes, and more. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Disney is teaming up with a big fashion designer to bring fashion design directly to its parks in a brand new way known as “fashiontainment.” Yep, there’s a new made-up word for the experience and everything. Basically, you’ll soon be able to experience a fashion runway IN a Disney theme park, because why not?
According to The New York Times, fashiontainment is a new thing where fashion leaves the runway and makes its way into entertainment spaces. This is the time of year when designers usually hit up the runways for Fashion Week, but this year, they’re taking their fashion to other spaces. For example, designer Ralph Lauren recently held a show in the Hamptons at Khalily Stables. CFDA has teamed up with New York’s Rockefeller Center to build a storied ice rink that will show off its fashion to everyone. The Apollo Theater is hosting Colm Dillane’s new collection in a night of comedy.
Disney is also jumping on the fashiontainment train, though. Fashion label Coperni is bringing a fashion show on October 1st to Disneyland Paris. It’s likely there will be a Cinderella theme. It’s also likely a lot of celebrities will be on hand to check out the collection.
So could we expect to see fashion shows come to Orlando or Anaheim? Well, it’s doubtful. Disneyland Paris makes sense as Paris is considered the fashion capital of the world. So don’t expect to see Mickey or Minnie strutting down the catwalk anytime soon in the U.S. parks (although we would argue that Clarabelle and Daisy were MADE to be runway models).
