TRON Lightcycle / Run has been one of the most popular rides in Disney World since it opened on April 4th, 2023.
The fast-paced roller coaster takes you into the grid of the popular TRON movies. As Team Blue and Team Green race, you’ll find yourself having a blast on your lightcycle. When the ride first opened, it was only available through a virtual queue boarding group and Lightning Lane Single Pass (previously Individual Lightning Lane). But recently, its line offerings have changed, and we are SHOCKED by the outcome!
Lightning Lanes and virtual queue boarding groups went quickly for TRON. These both generally sold out early each day. So when the virtual queue went away and was replaced by a standby line on September 9th, we expected the line to be long consistently throughout the day.
Typically, popular rides like this have long standby lines. For example, when Flight of Passage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened it had wait times of several HOURS. The ride continues to be popular to this day and will often see waits of over 90 minutes to 100 minutes on really busy park days.
So, what was it about TRON’s standby line that surprised us? This line is unusually short for such a popular ride! Granted, the ride has been open for over a year, so many people have already been able to ride it. But we thought it would for sure have a ridiculously long line days after its switch to a standby line.
We’ve noticed one of the busiest times to ride TRON is at rope drop, right when Magic Kingdom opens for Early Entry guests. The wait can get up over 60 minutes first thing in the morning according to AllEars.net’s wait times data. However, within a couple of hours, you may see it drop! Some days, AllEars has even seen the standby line go down to 30 minutes in the middle of the day. This blew our minds!
There are days when the line has stayed higher, around 55 minutes to 80 minutes throughout the day, but even a 55-minute wait for a popular ride like this isn’t that terrible! We’ve been pleasantly surprised by the shorter wait times. What does this mean for you and your planning? It may mean that you DON’T want to rope drop TRON. This ride is likely to see shorter waits at some other point in the day. It might also mean that, depending on what is too long of a wait for you and your group, you might decide not to purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass for this ride.
These situations are dependent on you and your family. If you’re ok with waiting 50 minutes to an hour, you’ll likely find a time sometime during the day to ride this ride. If you’ll only ride it with a 30-minute wait, you may or may not get lucky, and might instead want to purchase the Lighting Lane Single Pass. One thing has held relatively steady though for TRON — the morning is one of the busiest times of the day for this ride.
We’ll be interested to see if these trends continue for the ride as the standby line continues. For now, you may want to consider these wait times when making your Magic Kingdom game plan!

Not surprised at all. Tron is really a lousy ride that don’t even last a minute. It takes longer to load the ride which is usually 3 – 5 minutes.

Recently wait times all over the parks have been lower. It’s the low season.
I don’t think Tron is that fantastic of a ride. The queue leaves a lot to be desired and the ride is super short.
Stephanie Sternberg says
To me the line for tron always looks really long which can deter people and it’s a pain to get to as it takes forever to get to the ride by climbing uphill on the queue and wait for what seems like an hour for a 50 second ride. But I do love the theme and the ride itself is smooth just wish it was a tiny bit longer.
Kevin says
I wonder if the wait times go up after dark? I wonder if most people want to ride it in the dark to take advantage of it’s lighting effect?
