A popular Magic Kingdom restaurant just got a menu makeover!
Disney World’s Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in Frontierland is home to all kinds of Southwestern-inspired dishes, making it a popular stop among many Magic Kingdom visitors. Well, the restaurant is looking a little different these days, having introduced SEVERAL new items to its menu. We stopped by to review the new offerings and the results were kind of surprising!
Joining the Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe menu are the Steamed Tamale, Rice Bowl, Double Chili con Queso Burger, Southwest Caesar Salad, Barbecue-Cheddar Seasoned Fries, Mexican Chocolate and Horchata Verrine, and Sweet Corn Mousse. Some of these really stood out while others slightly missed the mark, so, without further ado, let’s jump right in!
We started with the Barbecue-Cheddar Seasoned Fries for $4.99. On first look, these were offputting but we were pleasantly surprised!
There isn’t actually any cheddar drizzled on them, which threw us off. However, the seasoning is cheddar-flavored and we’re happy to report that these fries are pretty good! They are kind of like a barbecued chip in fry form with a taste not too dissimilar to Worcestershire sauce. But don’t worry — the cheddar flavor is well-tossed and really stands out in the aftertaste. These fries can be ordered as a side or substituted instead of regular fries.
Next, we opted for the Southwest Caesar Salad for $12.99. This salad is made with romaine tossed in creamy salsa verde dressing, pepitas, queso fresco, pico de gallo, and tortilla strips. For the choice of protein, we went with pork.
Our pico was nice and fresh and we’re big fans of the crumbly cheese on top. We also felt that the pork was a marked improvement over pork of the past at this location. Ours tasted fresh and it pulled apart quite nicely. The crunchy tortilla strips also add extra texture and the Caesar salad is very tasty. Since the lettuce sits at the bottom of the bowl, you get really tasty bites packed with flavor in every scoop. We definitely recommend trying this if you’re a big salad fan.
The Rice Bowl also costs $12.99 and we got ours with beef. This dish is served with pinto beans, cilantro-lime rice, cowboy caviar, and queso fresco.
This bowl is solid. Our beef had something akin to a honey chipotle glaze with a bit of a kick but nothing too spicy. All of the ingredients here work so well and we think it would taste just as good with chicken and pork. This bad boy is also sizeable and the price is fair for what you’re getting. Although this serves as an entree on its own, we recommend splitting it with someone else as a side as it can almost be too big for one person.
We got our Steamed Tamale with chicken for $12.99 as well. This is a steamed green chili-cheese tamale with stewed pinto beans, queso fresco, and pico de gallo.
This dish comes with a side of beans and rice, which is a nice touch. Our tamale was so soft that we actually recommend grabbing a spoon for this, just in case. As for the taste, this tamale has a bit of kick thanks to the peppers on the inside, so be ready for that before purchasing. The flavor blend is so good and we feel like this is the tamale Disney World has been waiting for. Our favorite new item on the menu, this cheese tamale should go well with whatever protein you choose to customize it with and is something we can’t wait to get again.
We got our Double Chili con Queso Burger served with a side of beans (ours was initially served with fries but the Cast Members made it right). Made with two flame-broiled all-beef patties topped with chili con carne, chipotle queso, and corn chips for $16.49.
This burger is huge. It’s a double-patty burger with a queso sauce and some extra crunch from the corn chips, but it has some issues. There’s almost too much going on here. The flavor at its core is good, but it seems out of place on this menu. We felt it was more of an imitation of a sloppy joe and it would have benefited from some more spice, or gone down a more simplistic route. Very thick and packed with toppings, some people will really like this burger — it just wasn’t for us.
The beans, however, get two thumbs up from us. They’re kind of jazzed up pinto beans with some peppers, a hint of pico, and a smidge of cilantro. They aren’t super special, but they certainly are elevated beans and we’re glad we got them!
Finally, let’s talk dessert. We tried the Mexican Chocolate and Horchata Verrine for $5.49 and Sweet Corn Mousse for $6.29.
The Sweet Corn Mouse is a fun, cute, and picturesque dessert, but it is simple in taste. I’m so glad they’re getting use out of these corn moulds again!!! (They bought ’em for a corn cake at the Halloween Party a couple of years back.) This one is tasty, but if you don’t like corn you probably won’t like this. The sweet corn mousse is the dominant flavor with not much coming from the white chocolate and raspberry powder toppings that are served with it.
The Mexican Chocolate and Horchata Verrine is a bit of an enigma. We think it was okay but doesn’t live up to its potential. The ingredients and base here are solid, but the chocolate is overpowering and does a disservice to the horchata, which gets lost in this dessert.
It has a little bit of whipped cream and chocolate chips at the top that add a crispy texture that enhances the presentation. Still, it could not save the lack of horchata, which was akin to a sweet cinnamon rice milk. Too subtle but not bad, we hope this dessert improves in the future because the foundation is excellent.
And there you have it! Thanks for following along with our review and be sure to share yours once you try the new menu!

Which new Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe menu item are you most excited to try? Let us know in the comments!

That Corn Mousse looks very interesting, and I do agree with you on the burger. There is a tendency to add some many “elements” to a burger that it leads to flavors getting muddled and lost in the shuffle.
