We all have our favorite Disney World rides.
We also have those rides that we tend to stay away from, whether they’re too scary (Tower of Terror can be terrifying for some people), too extreme (Mission: SPACE Orange is a BIT MUCH), too dizzying (hello, Mad Tea Party), or for other reasons. However, some rides just have loading areas that can be a little iffy, and we now have actual proof of two Disney World rides with slightly dangerous loading areas where you need to take extra care getting in and out of ride vehicles.
Disney, along with other theme parks companies, has to report injuries in its parks to the state of Florida every quarter. These reports date back to 2001 — and when we took a look at the rides where guests are injured the most when getting into or out of vehicles — two rides stood out. Now, if your first thought is Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom because y’all know how hard it is to get in and out of those vehicles, well, YES, this is one of those rides where people get injured. This is also a ride that generally gets loaded and exited QUICKLY.
Some of the injuries resulted in guests being disoriented after the ride and having trouble exiting the vehicle. We can get that after being on a roller coaster and then having to climb out of those vehicles that sit VERY low — they are NOT easy to get in and out of. In one instance, someone fell entering the ride vehicle, which resulted in a temporary loss of consciousness and a fractured leg. Another guest suffered a fractured leg while entering the Space Mountain ride vehicle in 2012.
Another ride that has injuries in the loading area is Spaceship Earth in EPCOT — now this is another ride that loads pretty quickly, especially as the ride vehicles don’t stop when you get into them — this can make the vehicles difficult to get in and out of.
Just this year, one Disney World visitor injured her leg while exiting the vehicle. In 2016, someone fell while boarding the ride and ended up with a leg fracture. Another guest also fell when getting off the attraction and reported pain in a shoulder and wrists.
So the next time you’re in Disney World, be very mindful of those rides that are a little tricky getting in and out of. Sometimes a Disney Cast Member will offer a hand to help — don’t be afraid to take it if it provides you a little more stability! Most rides will also have warning signs about boarding and exiting, so pay attention to those, too. If you do happen to fall getting on or off a ride, seek out a Cast Member immediately, even if your injury seems minor.

They really need to reconfigure the queue for Space Mountain. I’m handicapped and they wouldn’t let me take my ECV in the queue. You were supposed to use a wheelchair, but they didn’t have any xtra wide ones available, which I need. I’m decided to walk the queue with my cane, not realizing how very long it was. ( Much longer than it needed to be- we didn’t run into an actual line until we were at least 2/3 the way in.) I was alright on the way to the ride, but when I got off, it was horrible- so long and the motorized walkways they used to have are now removed and everything is steeply uphill. I was in so much pain by the time I got to the gift shop. There’s absolutely no place to sit. They used to let ECVs go thru the line. I don’t know why they still can’t. They would meet you at the ride exit with your ECV and you could ride out. If they ever refurbish it I hope they put in an elevator. Magic Kingdom, because of when it was built, is horrible for handicapped. people.
