Listen, we get it. There’s one reason you’re hyped about your upcoming trip to EPCOT — Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!
We’re here for it too! Getting to save Earth with our favorites Rocket, Groot, Drax, Gamora, and Star-Lord is such a rocking dream come true. But what happens when you’re hyped to experience the ride and you’ve got your Lightning Lane all set, and then the ride goes down? Let’s talk about it!
Picture this, you’ve planned out your EPCOT day to the minute. You’ve booked your Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Lightning Lane, and you’re stoked for some serious intergalactic coaster action. But just as you get into the queue, ready for Star-Lord and team to blow your mind, boom the ride goes down. And not just for a few minutes either. Trust me, when this ride goes down, it can feel like it’s the Disney apocalypse.
This is exactly what happened recently to us recently. Now, it’s exciting when you get the message that the “ride will be back up in 10 minutes.” But in this situation, Cosmic Rewind was down for hours, reportedly due to a medical emergency.
That meant all of us with our Lightning Lane reservations were suddenly stuck in limbo, not knowing if we’d ever get to save the galaxy that day. If you’ve ever waited in one of those backed-up Lightning Lane lines, you know how quickly the Disney magic can fade.
Now, shoutout to Cast Members. They’re total saints. Can you imagine having to tell hundreds of people that their “much-anticipated ride” isn’t coming back anytime soon? I don’t think I could be the bearer of that kind of bad news.
If you find yourself in a situation like this, where the ride you want to get on is down for the count, don’t worry as you have some options.
First, stay calm. There are plenty of other attractions and experiences for you to choose from. Next, keep an eye on the My Disney Experience App as it will help you figure out where to go and what to do in the meantime. Lastly, this might be the perfect time to rehydrate and grab a snack around the World Showcase.
Here’s to hoping this doesn’t happen to you on your next visit. Until then, keep following DFB for all the latest Disney news!

I read that a 5 year old boy passed out on the ride and had to be resuscitated. His mother then found out that he had a heart condition that she didn’t know about. The Cast Members saved his life.
