Although the U.S. is just starting to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which affected states as far inland as Tennessee and prompted a Tornado Watch and Tropical Storm Warning in Disney World, there are some other potential storms forming in the Atlantic Ocean.
One of these storms has the potential to become severe, and forecasters are watching it carefully. Its path could take it through the Gulf of Mexico, so let’s take a look at it.
According to Eric Burrus from WESH in Orlando, there is “solid support on models something wants to form” and head towards the Gulf of Mexico, although the storm’s exact path “isn’t set in stone.” A low pressure system could form by mid-week and the environment in the Atlantic is “conducive for development.”
You know I’m not a hype person… but I do want to share this.
Solid support on models something wants to form- but the path isn’t set in stone.
I want to be sure to post so you watch- and follow along with the tropics again this week.

The National Hurricane Center is also closely watching this system, which currently has a 50 percent chance of formation over the next seven days in the Western Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. If it forms, it will become a tropical depression, and if it picks up speed could eventually become another hurricane.
The National Hurricane Center is also watching several other systems in the Atlantic Ocean now, including Hurricane Isaac, which is currently headed north and not currently posing any threat. The same goes for Tropical Storm Joyce, which isn’t expected to make landfall. However, there are currently two other systems behind Joyce: one of these systems has a 60 percent chance of formation within the next 48 hours, while the other has a 20 percent chance of formation within seven days.
Forecasters had previously predicted this year’s hurricane season, which lasts through November, could be “potentially explosive,” so it looks like we could expect to see more storms this year before the season ends.
