Our minds still can’t get over the fact that it won’t be too long before we get a new Coco attraction in Disney California Adventure!!
During the D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, we had the confirmation of the new attraction and that it will be a boat ride where we’ll see music play a large role. So, now we wanted to do a deep dive into the concept art and see if we could glean any info about the new Coco attraction coming to Disney California Adventure!
As we were saying, Disney confirmed that there will be a Coco attraction coming to Disney California Adventure. It will be a boat ride. They also shared their concept art for the new attraction.
About the new ride, Disney shared, “Walt Disney Imagineering will draw inspiration for the attraction from beloved classics, like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. We’re bringing our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way through the latest Audio-Animatronics technology. These figures will appear in ways you’ll have to see to believe.”
Now, let’s have a closer look at the concept art and see what we can learn about the new ride! First things first, let’s zoom into the bottom of the picture where we can see an eight-person boat floating down the river.
Above this boat, we can see Miguel and Hector with alebrije Dante just below them. We can imagine that we’ll see this trio many times throughout the ride.
And alebrije Pepita soaring high above, which makes us wonder if we’ll see a whole host of alebrijes in the ride maybe we some being unique to the ride.
Then on the left side we have a mariachi band.
On the right we have some dancers.
Above them, we have a woman outside of her window.
Then we have this chap out on his balcony.
Now, I know Disney said they’ll be using the latest Audio-Animatronics technology to bring these skeletal characters to life, but Disney is known for being sneaky and hiding real performers amongst the animatronics from time-to-time. Maybe we’ll see live performers on the ride too.
In the top right of the picture, we can finally spot Ernesto de la Cruz, although he’s in billboard form (he’s advertising his Gran Concurso de Talento). We’ll have to find out if we’ll see him in full-on animatronic form as well.
Now, the last thing which isn’t pictured in this concept that we’d love to see would be the marigold bridge (as seen in the film). It just makes sense that it would also be in the ride somehow.
Well, that’s all we’ve got for you at the moment, and now we’d like to hear from you on what you’re looking forward to with this new ride!
Disneyland’s new Coco attraction is set to break ground in 2026, but no opening date for the ride has been announced, so in the meantime, stay tuned to Disney Food Blog, where we will continue to monitor any news about the construction for this new Coco ride in Disney’s California Adventure.

I’m surprised that this will be a boat ride as I would have expected Disney to avoid water going forward because of the increased engineering expense and maintenance. Water rides seem to malfunction more often and have more extensive refurbishment periods.

I wish they would put this in the Mexico pavilion at EPCOT. Would be perfect addition.
