When you hear the words ‘theme park’, Disney and Universal are probably the first names that come to mind.
But, we also know that there are so many other iconic theme parks across the country that deserve all the love and hype from theme park fans. And soon enough, there may be a new one to add to the list!
South Dakota is getting their largest family entertainment destination with Liberty Land in Rapid City! Planned for the area near Mall Drive and Lacrosse Street, this new amusement park will be a total game-changer for local fun and adventure.

Approved by Rapid City Council back in December 2022, Liberty Land is set to be a 300-acre property with a “themed RV Resort, amusement park, indoor/outdoor amphitheater, an indoor water park, a neighborhood with dining, housing, shopping and a hotel and conference center”. The theme for this amusement park is a celebration of the American spirit of the West, set in The Black Hills of South Dakota.

Vicki Fisher, The City Council’s Development Director, is confident that Liberty Land will put South Dakota on the map, competing with the likes of Disneyland and Universal Studios. “We have an issue in our community to ensure entertainment, especially for our young people, our young adults. Obviously, there’s many outdoor activities. There’s other activities that one can participate in, but it’s limited,” Fisher said.

Though construction hasn’t kicked off yet for this massive project, the first phase is expected to be completed by 2030. The excitement, however, is already building!

No I am not happy with this. They say mall drive and lacrosse yet are building on 14rd Ave. They should do it where Dennys and Bosts were it woukd be better than kicking people out of their homes just so they have parking space and camper hook ups. This is SD. It’s not California or Florida.
I along with many others think this is not going to last. We hope it don’t. Money and Greed over people and their homes is horrible.
No im not happy about it along with so many others from this state and surrounding towns along with people right here in Rapid City.
You say it’s going to be on Mall Drive and Lacrosse. And it should be. But now it’s on 143rd Ave. Why are we the people being lied to? Many people including myself hope that it only lasts under a year and it closes. We don’t think it will last a year and if it does, it won’t make it after two.
Taking homes away from people is not only selfish, but it’s money and greed over we the people.
