We have seen a lot of weird souvenirs across the Disney parks.
Did you know that you could buy REAL fossil dinosaur poop in Animal Kingdom? How about the animal poop candy that you could find at Zuri’s Sweets Shop? While we have seen our fair share of weird souvenirs as well as souvenirs we would never buy (we are looking at you bubble wands!), we genuinely do not understand why this strange Disney souvenir trend is still around.
Remember the Disney Stores outside of the parks? How about the giant plush mountain that was in the store? While many have closed, there are still physical Disney Stores around the United States. To add to the magic of these stores, a visitor is selected to open the store with a large key each day. After they open the store, they get a special commemorative key to remember their moment.
Then, Disney started to release special keys that were given away with a purchase, but soon, the keys began to be sold separately. These collectible keys now come out to celebrate film anniversaries and merchandise collections. These keys could only be purchased online or at the physical Disney Stores, but lately, we have seen them pop up for sale in the parks.
Some people even collected the keys as you would with pressed pennies or Disney pins. We’ve seen people use them as Christmas ornaments!
Many people do not know the story behind these keys, but Disney is continuing to make them. We even know the lore behind them, and still don’t get it!
While we may not understand why Disney is continuing a trend that was once part of the unique experience of the Disney Store, if you are curious and want your own Disney key, you can currently get this unique Mary Poppins key. The key was released to celebrate the film’s 60th anniversary.
As we said, some people tie a string on their keys to make ornaments out of them, and now Disney has a key that is already made into an ornament. The Mickey Mouse Holiday Collectible Key Sketchbook Ornament for 2024 has Mickey all dressed up in his holiday best and has a castle snow globe as the key part.
While we may not understand the key trend, we know that some collectors would be disappointed if Disney stopped making the keys. However, to us, there does not seem to be enough knowledge about the Disney collectible keys, and the market has become saturated with them, as they once were a unique thing to purchase at the Disney Store. As for right now, since Disney just released a holiday ornament, it seems that the key trend will continue to stick around.

These actually remind me of when people collected little spoons when they went on vacation. But the keys are cuter.

I don’t really understand why DFB doesn’t understand these. They look like a lovely little collectable item.
