It’s the end of an era at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
After “Ka-CHOW”-ing its final “Ka-CHOW,” Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy will entertain its final round of parkgoers TODAY, October 7th. The attraction is closing to make way for a new Disney Villains show, but we couldn’t let Lightning McQueen go without saying goodbye one last time.
It’s official! Today, October 7th, is the last day to experience Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy at Disney’s Hollywood Studios before it closes its doors forever. But, it’s not all bad news — Hollywood Studios will get a brand new Disney Villains stage show! This new show will be housed in the current building for Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy. We headed over to the Sunset Showcase Theater to see the attraction one last time before it closed.
While Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy was never a huge draw for crowds, it looks like even on its last day that is still the case. At around 10:30AM, there was only a 15-minute wait for the attraction, which is an interactive stage show. Things could change as the day goes on and we’ll let you know if that’s the case.
Don’t worry, though, as we’ll soon see Lightning McQueen and all his friends when they’re relocated to Frontierland in Magic Kingdom for the new Cars expansion. While there is no opening date for the expansion and no closing date for Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America, construction permits have already started to be filed.
And, Disney is once again bringing even more live entertainment to the stage down Sunset Boulevard, where it aims to transform the current Sunset Showcase into the “mysterious, reflective realm of the Magic Mirror.” Disney went on to tease that the show will feature appearances from the likes of Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent each “breaking through the glass” where they will take the stage to perform live!
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more changes and updates coming to Disney World. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog so you don’t miss a thing!
