Disney World is full of spooky surprises this Halloween season.
We’re spending spooky season the best way we know how — by eating and drinking all of the festive eats and treats around Disney World, of course! We’ve already had our fair share of quite a few, but some new snacks recently rolled out — so come along as we try them!
We headed over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to try some spooky snacks for Halloween! First up is the Ghost Cream Puff from ABC Commissary for $5.49. This is a sour apple custard-filled cream puff topped with toasted meringue and chocolate chips. Yes, you read that correctly: sour apple custard. We weren’t quite sure how this one was going to play out, but boy is this a cute little snack.
Unfortunately, the cuteness is pretty much where the good aspects of this dessert end. This might be the worst Disney World snack we’ve had in quite some time. The cream puff shell and the toasted meringue were a bit too toasty — they were on the verge of being burnt and bitter.
The sour apple custard filling was SO sour and was beyond tangy, almost like a sour candy rather than just a natural sourness. The combination of the burnt flavors and the sourness really did not go well together and this made for quite a disappointing treat. If you like REALLY sour candy and REALLY burnt marshmallows, this might be for you.
We were hoping for a miracle with this next treat — the Caramel Apple Shake from Dockside Diner for $8.99. It’s a caramel and green apple shake topped with M&M’s white chocolate bark. It’s supposed to have Halloween sprinkles, but they didn’t have them when we stopped by.
We were pleasantly surprised by this — especially after being burned by that last treat. The caramel flavor is the most pronounced and is nice and sweet with a hit of nuttiness from that caramelized sugar. The green apple comes through at the end with a tanginess that we wished the cream puff had. The white chocolate bark is pretty average but did add a nice creaminess to the rest of the shake.
If you really love green apple-flavored candy, you’ll probably like this is its definitely on the artificial side. It’s a fun and festive treat but not one we’re itching to try again!
In the meantime, we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for the latest snack news and more from Disney World, so make sure you stay tuned to Disney Food Blog!
