Things aren’t “back to normal” in Florida quite yet.
Two days after Florida was battered by Hurricane Milton, many of the state’s larger attractions and businesses have begun reopening. These include Disney World, Universal Orlando, and Orlando International Airport. However, while Orlando Airport is back open to commercial operation, that doesn’t mean things are going 100% smoothly.

MCO officially reopened to commercial traffic on the morning of October 11th, making the announcement on its X (formerly Twitter) account.
Operational Update/9 – Hurricane Milton
Our airport is open and operational for all commercial flights. Please check with your airline directly for any specific updates prior to your travels. Welcome back! pic.twitter.com/xzZoM31sNU— Orlando International Airport (@MCO) October 11, 2024
The airport shared in part, “Our airport is open and operational for all commercial flights. Please check with your airline directly for any specific updates prior to your travels. Welcome back!”
However, as of mid-morning on the 11th, the airport was still experiencing a rash of delays and cancelations. As of 11:00AM, there were 178 canceled flights, with a further 75 heavily delayed.
Airlines like Southwest and Frontier seem to be reporting the heaviest amount of cancelations at this time, but we expect other airlines to report additional cancelations throughout the day.
Expanding beyond air transportation, Brightline is still working on restoring full service, according to its newest social media post.
We’re getting back on track.

Our trip was originally set for Thursday from DFW to MCO. We rescheduled for today, Saturday & are now in Miami waiting for our 4:00 pm flight to MCO. So far, flights are on time & we actually landed in MIA 30 minutes early!
