Does one of Disney World’s most popular theme park lands have a major issue?
Magic Kingdom is the most visited theme park in the world, and for good reason. Home to tons of fantastic attractions, entertainment, and more, Magic Kingdom is THE juggernaut in the theme park industry. With that said, the park isn’t without its own imperfections, which our readers pointed out recently.
We asked our readers, “If you could retheme one of Magic Kingdom’s lands to something new, which would it be and what would you make its retheme?” The results poured in as y’all had A LOT of thoughts and one land unfortunately stood out.
If you could retheme one of Magic Kingdom’s lands to something new, which would it be and what would you make its retheme?

However, one popular response truly stood out: Tomorrowland. Not surprisingly, Tomorrowland at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland are often criticized for ironically falling behind with the times and not maintaining Disney standards. Fans picking this land in particular was kind of expected at this point.
Tomorrowland was designed to give guests a glimpse at possible futures, which sounds cool on paper but comes with a major caveat — the future always arrives. Quickly over time, the land at both coasts has become outdated and in some serious need of TLC. Fortunately, our readers have come up with several retheme ideas that could really elevate Tomorrowland!
Reader Steve wrote that Tomorrowland “falls short” and that the land is missing coherence as it “feels like it’s haphazard rather than a planned experience.”
Reader Shawn took a pragmatic approach, suggesting the land match Disneyland Paris’ steampunk theming. Reader Bridget echoed that sentiment by suggesting a land themed around space or tech that helps keep Tomorrowland relevant.
Several of our readers pointed out that the easiest solution is to really focus on the tomorrow part of Tomorrowland. Reader Christy simply wrote, “I would re-theme Tomorrowland to Tomorrowland.” Reader Jeni added that the land doesn’t require a retheme as much as it does an update.
However, we did see some ideas that involved totally new rethemes. Reader Barbara suggested retheming Tomorrowland into a Retro Land that included old rides such as The Great Movie Ride.
Reader Wendy proposed scrapping the land altogether and adding a Frozen Land. This would make some sense, as Frozen has been popping up at Disney Parks globally over the past few years.
Another suggestion from reader Rich was changing Tomorrowland to San Fransokyo, which would also reflect a different modern addition. San Fransokyo Square popped up at Disney California Adventure in 2023 if it were to ever come to Magic Kingdom, we would expect something much larger with some pretty cool attractions.
Changing Tomorrowland is no small ask and it’s always a tough task to mess with something as nostalgic as Tomorrowland. The possibility of a retheme might be closer than we think. Once the new Cars Land and Villains Lands open, Disney might turn their attention to Tomorrowland. How would you revitalize the land? Would you retheme it or update it? Is it perfect the way it is? Would love to see Sanfransokyo make it MK, but honesty, Tomorrowland is one of my favorite spots in the park, especially at night! I love the music, the People Mover, Tron and Space mountain – i could see it getting a facelift, but would hate to see it re-themed altogether.
Norma says
I agree about Tomorrowland. I love People Mover and Carousel of Progress but nothing else. Frankly, that’s where cars or villain land should go instead of ruining the other side of MK!
Tom Welsh says
Ellen’s Energy adventure took us back to prehistoric times, over in EPCOT. Perhaps some kind of similar ride simulating the Space Shuttle would work in Tomorrowland (NOT another roller coaster). Weightlessness is not currently a popular technology other than Nasa’s vomit comet, so, perhaps a simulation of 2010’s Space Odessey (with the Blue Danube).
Rocky Yoda says
The Storybook theming is better than we all think. As adults it’s easy to criticize, but all you have to do is ask those smiling children on the water pad or their first ride on the Barnstormer and they love it.
Oskar says
Still can’t believe they got rid of the great movie rie and the Mark Twain Island
Denise says
I’d update Tomorrowland by really modernizing the last scene in Carousel of Progress and maybe update the song. Also, how about changing Buzz Lightyear’s SR Spin to an Incredibles theme. Change Laugh Floor to Inside Out 3D ride and finally use the old Stitch bldg. for a Big Hero 6 experience.
Cynthia says
I have always thought that it would be fun to have a nostalgia land to bring back some of the old rides such as the one that sang, if you had wings. Nothing wrong with new and updated attractions but why toss out a glimpse of the past and old ideas? Its history. It was a step towards the future. Why delete the past? Its fun to look back too.
Nicole says
Tomorrowland could use a glow up but as for a complete overhaul. No thanks! Put something in that empty Stitch attraction
Don says
Someone needs to go back and review what Walt really envisioned for Tomorrowland.
Ryan says
You can’t get rid of Carousel of Progress. That was one of Walt’s own works of art and that would be sacrilege. Space Mountain could be rethemed like that in Paris but not done away with. You have so many things that don’t fit like Laugh Floor and empty space that can be used for Tomorrowland updates.
