So we’ve made it no secret that we are not big fans of one of Disney World’s most controversial snacks: the turkey leg.
We’ve tried it several times, and honestly, we don’t get the appeal. Sure, maybe a turkey leg would be great if you were walking around a Renaissance Faire (and yes, they sell them there). But in Disney World? Where there are already TONS of GREAT snacks? WHY? However, we’ve had several folks tell us that the turkey legs at Universal Orlando were better, so you know what we had to do: we had to go to Universal and try it out. We do this for science, y’all!
Okay, we’re going to start with the Disney World turkey leg. The last time we tried one, we grabbed it from Prince Eric’s Village Market in Magic Kingdom for $14.49 and it came with chips. This thing is HUGE and shareable if you really have other people want it (we know, we’re so mean). It’s got a smoky and meaty flavor, but it’s fatty and has gristle. Just NOT our thing.
So we visited Universal Orlando and went to a cart there and ordered a Turkey Leg. In Universal, the turkey leg with chips combo is $15.99 (a little more than the combo in Disney World) or you can grab the turkey leg by itself for $13.99. When we held that fat turkey leg in our hands, we realized it looks about the same as the one from Disney World. It’s pretty big and also shareable. In looking at the photos, though, the Universal turkey leg looks like it’s darker, so maybe it’s cooked a tiny bit longer?
The turkey leg was easy to bite into and the meat tore apart easily, but it was very pink on the inside. The flavor, like the Disney World one, is quite smoky. However, this turkey leg was SO dry. Guess what? We didn’t really care for this one either. It’s just a weird snack and whoever thought this was theme park food…is WRONG.
So, no, the Universal Orlando turkey leg did not win us over, so maybe it’s just an acquired taste. Overall, the flavors seemed similar, although the Universal Orlando one was a bit dry. There isn’t a HUGE difference, though, so we’ll…well, we’ll pass.
