Here at DFB, we love a food challenge!
From a giant ice cream sundae made for four to a food crawl around a theme park, we’re usually down to try anything that’s culinarily exciting. Most often, we cover Disney food, but occasionally, we stop by other spots as well. And if you’re in Orlando, there’s a “food challenge” at the other major theme park resort you may not have tried before!
Yep, that’s right — for this review, we’re heading to Universal Orlando! Over at the Hard Rock Hotel, there’s a restaurant called The Kitchen, and they have something on the menu that we think you need to know about.
Say hello to The Kitchen Sink, which rings up at a whopping $48! It’s described as “Seven Layers of Heaven! Brownie, Peanut Butter Creme, Chocolate Chunk Cookie, Red Velvet, Vanilla Cheesecake, Devil’s Food Chocolate Cake, Vanilla Chiffon, Chocolate Sauce and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.” WOW.
That is a LOT of cake, y’all! And as a fun bonus, they spooky-fied our slice for the Halloween season.
You could totally split this dessert with a group of friends, especially if you’re planning on coming here for a full meal as well.
As far as the cake goes, there’s a LOT to taste here. This is served cold, so the brownie layer is thick and a little more difficult to eat than one straight out the oven, but it’s nice and chocolatey. The peanut butter creme layer is not super prominent with the peanut butter flavor, especially with all the other elements. The chocolate chip layer reminds us mostly of a cookie cake, so that’s a fun and unique element.
The red velvet layer is pretty basic and has that signature chocolate flavor. The same goes for the devil’s food cake. The vanilla chiffon kinda gets lost amongst the other flavors, but the vanilla cheesecake has a lovely creamy texture to it that provides some much-needed relief after those brownie, cookie, and cake layers.
Because the cake is served cold, it starts to shift slightly as it melts — it gets really top-heavy. So you’ll probably want to cut up the slice and divvy it up before it reaches room temperature.
And then of course, there’s a gigantic serving of vanilla ice cream on the side that’s slathered in chocolate syrup and strawberries. It’s probably a 4-6 person portion, so be warned!
Ultimately, this is a hefty challenge that we do NOT recommend attempting alone. Bring 4-6 of your closest friends and take it on together. Cutting the cake can be a challenge too because of those cookie and brownie layers, so prepare for some mess. But if you’re down for the adventure, it was delicious!
