We’ve made quite a few mistakes in Disney World.
Even though we visit Disney World every day, it doesn’t stop us from learning new things or messing up our own vacations from time to time. And recently, one member of our team had a bizarre breakfast experience that we wanted to share with you — that way you know how to proceed!
Gasparilla Island Grill is the quick service offering at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, and the restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can Mobile Order your food, or you can stop by and pick out the eats at the restaurant.
When you walk into the restaurant, there are a few different food stations, including a coffee bar on the left. During our visit, we walked up to the coffee bar to order our beverage and we waited…and waited…and waited. Finally, a Cast Member noticed us standing there and informed us that we needed to order our beverages at the register, and then pick them up at the counter!
This restaurant is particularly confusing, because some items you’ll need to pick up yourself (like anything in the bakery case or the refrigerator), while others will need to be ordered at the checkout counter. Our new cheat sheet goes like this — if it’s a hot item, try ordering it at the register first.Â
And of course, if you’re not sure, you can always ask a Cast Member! Policies vary from restaurant to restaurant, so sometimes it’s a guessing game. We’ve even experienced Disney changing order methods within restaurants between visits.
So let the lesson here be that even we get confused in Disney World…and we’re experts! Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you’re on vacation — it’ll make things more smooth for your family and your trip overall.

I once led our crew to the Ticket and Transportation Center at the end of a long MK day… only to realize we couldn’t get transpo to our hotel from there. It was late too. Luckily there were taxis there just waiting for fares. That was embarrassing, and I felt terrible doing that to my family, but they were very understanding – none of them realized we were making a mistake either – and the truth is we probably got back to our hotel sooner and more comfrotably than taking the bus. We were always inevitably standing on the bus, either because there were no seats when we got on, or because we’d give up seats if we got them.
