There are a lot of opportunities in Disney World to sit down, have some good food, and just RELAX.
We love those longer dinners at places like Victoria & Albert’s at the Grand Floridian, Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya in EPCOT, and California Grill at the Contemporary. However, is there anything MORE chill than a nice afternoon tea? Well, Disney World hasn’t had an afternoon tea offering in QUITE a while (the Grand Floridian Garden View Tea Room never reopened after 2020), but now it has one again! So come with us as we check out the NEW afternoon tea at The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers at the BoardWalk!
At The Roses of Gold Afternoon Tea at The Cake Bake Shop, you get a dedicated server that will show you the list of teas you can choose from — and you can try as many as you like. These teas have been “meticulously curated” in collaboration with Dammann Frères. FANCY. You’ll also get a selection of homemade scones and the Roses of Gold tray, which is decked out with various desserts and finger sandwiches. The entire experience is $95 per adult and $65 per child. So what’s it like?
We also want to mention that you can opt for gluten-free snacks, including bread for the finger sandwiches, PLUS there’s a brownie that’s made in a special pan so that EVERY PIECE IS AN EDGE PIECE. Y’all — BRILLIANT. There are some vegan options, but they’re limited and are mostly just salads.
We chose two teas which we were told were popular options, as well as the Breakfast Blend. Like we said, though, you can drink as much tea as you want (or at least as much as your bladder can handle), although you can only have two teapots on the table at any given time. The L’Oriental is a green tea with the aromas of passionfruit, peach, and strawberry. It was wonderfully light and bright. It was herbaceous right at the front of our noses, too. We loved it, especially after adding a bit of fresh honey to sweeten it up.
The Carcadet Nuit d’été (fruit tea) was GORGEOUS. It’s a fruit infusion tea with hibiscus, apple, rosehip peel, raspberry, strawberry, and cream aromas. It had this beautiful burgundy color and was wonderfully fruity. There was a hint of tartness, but it wasn’t strong. Also, note that this is a naturally decaffeinated tea. This was the standout tea for us.
The Breakfast Blend is a black tea blend of Ceylon, Darjeeling, and Assam teas. As its name suggests, it’s the perfect tea for breakfast if you’re waking up in the morning and need to get your day started. It’s very good and spot on for its name and flavors.
The Anichai is a black tea flavored with ginger, cloves, red berries, and cardamon. It’s got a woodland cinnamon flavor to it. Our server called it “Christmas in a cup,” and you know what? We agree! It’s like apple cider but without the apple. It’s got a very festive flavor. However, it’s not very sweet, so you might want to add some sugar or honey.
Let’s talk about the food. The Orange Cranberry Scone was DELIGHTFUL. We’re just going to admit that we DEVOURED this thing. It was so buttery and moist — it just melted in the mouth.
The orange zest was subtle and offered a nice hint of taste which paired really well with the cranberries. Y’all. This could be the best scone we’ve ever had.
The scones are served with traditional Clotted Cream (YUM), as well as European Salted Butter and The Cake Bake Shop’s Pixie Jelly that we love so much.
Okay, let’s talk about the tray. The tea tray has two of each offering of sandwiches, treat bars, and a special tea cake you can ONLY get with the Afternoon Tea. Note there were two of us at this experience, and so we got one of each treat. If you have more people at your table, you’ll get extra treats to accommodate them. Our server also explained if you’re doing the experience solo, you’ll get a smaller amount on your tray with one of each. For three or more people, you’ll get multiple trays.
Okay, we’ll start with the sandwiches. The Egg Salade was so nice (and also, we have to give a shot out for the incredible bread on all the sandwiches — it’s so airy and light). It was light on the mayo, so it wasn’t super runny. It also had a nice texture with a crunch provided by a bit of celery.
The Chicken Salade was extraordinary. It’s a chicken salad with grapes in it plus LOTS of chicken and a nice crunch. It was also nice and light, and again, we loved that bread.
The Salmon Sandwich was lovely. It’s smoked salmon that’s nice and fresh and a bit on the salty side. The sandwich had a nice creaminess to it.
The Herbed Goat Cheese with Thinly Sliced Cucumber was also so nice. It had a great crunch and the goat cheese added a lovely light creaminess and flavor. Honestly, we thought all four sandwiches were a win.
One reporter thought the Lemon Bar was so wonderfully tart, but also sweet and it melted in the mouth. However, our other reporter didn’t like it and said it tasted like something that had just come out of the wash. The Blackberry Jam Crumble was something we both agreed on. The base was buttery and crumbled just enough without being too messy. The raspberry was also that wonderful pixie jam that is made fresh here, which offers a nice balance of tart and sweet. The Magic Bar…well, this one didn’t do it for us. It had a nice texture and was soft, plus it wasn’t messy. But it has walnuts, and if you don’t like walnuts, this might not do it for you.
The Truffle was incredible. It was so creamy on the inside with a wonderful dark chocolate flavor that wasn’t too heavy. We also thought it was a nice size. The Tea Cake was delicious and reminds us of why we will gladly pay $22 for slices of cake at this restaurant. It was light and airy and had more of that pixie jam in the middle, which just made it even better. The French Macarons were also great: one was champagne, while the other was rose. They had a nice texture when you bit into them. The champagne flavor had a nice whipped feeling. But both were light and wonderful. We will say these aren’t the best macarons we’ve ever had, though, but we enjoyed them enough.
Overall, we think this is a great experience for a special occasion. There are other teas outside of Disney World that are comparable for less money, but we cannot stress how impeccable the service is at The Cake Bake Shop, which makes the experience just that much more magical. For us, we’d say it was worth it.

I think we just might try this.

I’m not sure how this could possibly worth $95/adult and $65/child, even if everything was absolutely perfect. Like $400 for afternoon tea for a family of four? Nope.

$400 for afternoon tea (with tax and tip) for a family of four? Nope. Not even if everything is absolutely perfect. It’s cheaper to do dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table…
Dania says
Absolutely not. This is a basic afternoon tea that I can get at my local tea shop and it’s $35pp. The world equestrian center has a $95 afternoon tea and they serve lobster. Hmmm what would you do? I know what I’ll be doing. I will never step foot in this shop with these outrageous prices. I have done afternoon tea across the country and around the world but I will not be doing this one.

My wife and I travel to England every couple of years and have afternoon tea in several different restaurants and we never have paid that much for the experience. Well, we do fly to England.

I have a reservation for my birthday! Can’t wait to try it!

What time is this experience available? Does it start at 1pm or something? Strange that this is an entire review with none of the practical information like what times you can book this for
Carol says
The price is outrageous. We had afternoon tea in The Pump Room in Bath, England for about 120 GBP for 2 people. It included a glass of champagne and a live string quartet. How do they justify these prices??? We’re not going there. I can get a huge slice of really good cake at Gideon’s. Much more reasonable.

My sister and our mom use to go to the Tea room at the beautiful grande Floridian resort some years back and did it several times it was wonderful and served on the beautiful old country rose’s china which I have at home and it wasn’t the amount that is being charged no way would we do that is crazy and would never do that
Julie says
Can you get refills for whatever you want? $95.00 is just a horrible money grab.
pattie says
I. Don’t even think refills would no worth it u could have some dinners
For that amount that is a money grabber they r keeping the regular people that want to go to Disney out and we r the ones that made
Disney successful and it’s called
Deviding the classes and those with more money get
Special perks and that is pure greed

We have reservations for Friday! You need to call or send an email to their concierge. The phone number and email link is in their blurb about Cake Bake. You cannot make reservations online. As for the price, this is what we just paid last month at the London House in downtown Chicago. The one real negative is that it must be paid for in advance. If you cancel, it can be used as a future credit there. Tax and tip are included in the prepaid price. I do miss the GF afternoon tea.

It’s more expensive than Cinderella’s Castle And doesn’t have Princess’s! There are wAy better choices and affordable options All over Disney!
This place is unjustifiable!
