Back at D23, Disney announced that an official Monsters, Inc. themed land would be coming to Hollywood Studios. Well, we officially got confirmation on where this new land will be going, but we also got some news we weren’t expecting AT ALL!
The new Monsters, Inc. land will be taking over the Muppets area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, BUT this isn’t the end of The Muppets in Hollywood Studios. In fact, The Muppets are being moved elsewhere in Hollywood Studios.
Disney announced that The Muppets will be moving to Sunset Boulevard and taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster! You read that right, The Muppets (!) will be the star of the show on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and will be teaming up with some of “music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.”
We are thinking no one probably had a Muppets retheme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster on their 2024 bingo card, but here we are! This will be the first Disney ride to feature The Muppets and there are sure to be “laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure.” Additionally, Disney teased that there will be plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard.
Disney said that there is still plenty of time to watch Muppet*Vision 3D and take a limo ride with Aerosmith on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster though. Disney hasn’t announced yet when construction will begin on the Monsters, Inc. land. We’ll be on the lookout for any and all updates leading up to the start of construction at Hollywood Studios so stay tuned with us here at DFB!

What in the world are they thinking with this?? I’m old and loved the muppets as a kid. But, if this is more than just changing the movie scene before the ride, it will be an absolutely horrible idea. My kids/nieces/nephews ranging in all ages couldn’t care less about the muppets. I really think it’s a dying brand. There is definitely a younger audience for them, like the 3d muppets show. But this? Who wants this ? Again as a fan I don’t. And my god I certainly don’t want to hear muppet stuff blasted in my ears during a thrill ride. I dont get this news at all.

If the plan was to get rid of RRC they probably should have put the Cars attractions there and left Rivers of America alone
Louise Herrick says
Amazing! I often think the Muppets aren’t as popular and worry they might be axed at the parks. This confirms that Disney feels they are still worth throwing money at. I’m pleased with this, however, I haven’t been on RNR on my last 2 trips as I didn’t feel up to it because of a medical condition. Now I’m going to force myself to get on. I hope they make it a little less jerky whilst refurbing.
Its a shame for youngsters who aren’t tall enough to ride or people that have got to an age that they no longer go on coasters. I want everyone to enjoy the Muppets.

I back every decision Disney makes, I have always believed in them when they make changes. But this! This is the dumbest retheme they could have thought of. None of the younger generation cares about the muppets. They do not belong in this ride. What was once my favorite ride will be an insta-skip for me now. I hope all the people that raised such a big stink about Muppet 3-D closing, a ride that nobody ever goes on, are happy. Nobody else but that crowd will go on this ride. It is utterly pointless, and a waste of Disney’s resources.
Jane Dew says
What in the world? Why would they think the Muppets belongs on RRC? I would love to be a fly on the wall at the meetings where these decisions are made.
Ronjon says
The Muppets are for young kids. Most of them won’t be able to ride the ride because they are too small. They should have re-themed it to Iron Man like they did in Paris.

Retheming Rockin’ Roller Coaster sucks!!!! Disney is slowly leaving out the 50+ year olds who enjoy these rides. I am definitely done with Disney now. Between this and retheming Slash Mountain and the ridiculous high prices they charge and all the future chages I will never come back to Disney nor will my family. It is no longer affordable and the magic as we know it is being destroyed. They should use all those undeveloped acres of land to make new lands and parks. Well, goodbye Disney. RIP Walt they are destroying your dream and legacy all for greed of money.
Marilyn says
I have no interest in cars and don’t go on coasters so cars on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster would have been a good match. But I love the Muppets as do my son and GS, neither of which are coaster fans. Why all this emphasis on coasters lately? Why assume that all lovers of Disney are equally enchanted by coasters, because I can assure you we are not. First you try to force Encanto on us, now you dramatically increase the number of coasters on us, Disney will not be Disney anymore after you finish with the newest round of changes which gives us even more reason to never come back. Trying to keep up with Universal and taking away everything that made Disney different and appreciated is not the way to do it. Might as well give it the name it is really becoming – Universal #2 in mor ways than one.
Lucretia Kleinman says
So are you saying that the Muppets might jam with some cool bands (like Aerosmith)? Would like some more details, but it still sounds like a dumb idea.
Deborah says
I still like the ride as is. Why change it right away. A couple of weeks ago I stood in line for an hour to get on the ride. Its popularity hasn’t changed.
Mary Guss says
Horrible idea
Debbie Lee says
OMGOSH, Terrible Idea – RNR is a classic, as is Aerosmith, which by they way announced retirement. Just leave a Classic Alone, PLEASEEEEEEE
Kate says
Are they kidding? Replacing Aerosmith with the Muppets?!?! I think Disney’s current management is insane. This is an idiotic idea.
Beth says
Ok Disney, here me out!!
(I’m sure Bob Iger is reading this comment section, right!?! 😂)
With this retheme of RRC, please add on a space for Muppetvision viewing as you’re exiting the ride!
2 attractions in 1!
Of course adding a separate entrance for the non coaster riders as well, so everyone can enjoy.
There! Problem solved!
Amanda says
So excited for this change! Aerosmith is no longer touring and Disney doesn’t need to pay for the rights to those songs. Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem are the greatest roch band of all time.
Tammy says
I hate this idea….why does everything have to be IP? I at least hope that there will still be good classic rock music with the retheme.
Chrystie says
I think this is fantastic! The Muppets are hilarious. You don’t have to know about the Muppets to ride the ride. People who didn’t know about Aerosmith rode it.
Robin says
I think this is one of the worst ideas ever! I think they should leave Muppets in an area for kids, not a roller coaster. It completely ruins the ride!!
