Well, it’s officially happening, and let’s just say the news about the new Monsters, Inc. land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios is bittersweet.
Yes, we are totally excited about a land devoted to Mike, Sulley, and all their employees at Monsters, Inc., but we’re also sad that Muppets Courtyard, along with Muppet*Vision 3D is going away to make room for it (at least the Muppets are just moving over to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, so at least Disney gave us that). But we ARE getting some new attractions in the Monsters, Inc. land and that’s something to be excited about, right? So let’s take a look at these new attractions.
Okay, so we’ll be diving into the few details Disney has given us so far, as well as taking a closer look at the latest concept art for the new land. So far, we think there are at least two attractions coming to the Monsters, Inc. land in Hollywood Studios. But first, let’s take a look at the NEW concept art for this land to give you an idea of what we’re referring to.
Okay, so here are the attractions we believe we’ll see in this new area of the park.
The Door Ride
The first attraction Disney announced for the new Monsters, Inc. land is a ride based on the door chase sequence in the original Monsters, Inc. movie. Yes, that scene that fans have been begging Disney to make a ride for is finally happening. Here’s some concept art showing off the new ride, which will be Disney’s first EVER suspended roller coaster. Yeah, that’s EXCITING.
We’ve already done a deep dive into this concept art, and Disney has promised a ride that “will put you right in the middle of the monster action. Just be sure to fill out your paperwork! Roz is always watching…” From the new concept art, we think that the new coaster will be at the far end of the land, in the largest building.
We’ve seen the model of this attraction, and it will certainly need to take up a lot of space. However, we’re guessing this area will also feature some shops and, who knows, maybe even a dining spot!

A Monsters, Inc. Show
Disney also revealed that a new show would be coming to the land. The ONLY detail we have about the show is that it will be new, so it’s something we haven’t seen yet. So yep, that’s exciting, too, and it’s pretty likely going to go into this Monstro Theater location we see in the new concept art. (This looks like the location of the former Muppet*Vision 3D attraction)
You can see what seems to be a little queue area there in front of that building, too. What kind of show will this be? Well, that’s anyone’s guess.
Disney Just Teased MONSTERS INC ICE CREAM And We Need To Discuss
Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
Perhaps the most surprising addition to the new concept art is a sign above one of the buildings for Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor. This could be a red herring or just an ad for the current Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor show in Magic Kingdom.
Or…now hear us out...what if Disney moves the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor show to the new land? It would certainly make sense because it’s not that great of a fit in Tomorrowland. But will Disney really relocate an entire show? Who knows? But it’s interesting the new concept art references it.
When Is the New Monsters, Inc Land Opening in Disney World?
Disney has also promised new shopping and dining (and we are SO keeping an eye on Harryhausen’s in the concept art because that better be a real restaurant). We’ll be looking out for more details about the new land, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

I’m crossing my fingers for a Harryhausen Restaurant. Hollywood studios needs another upscale dining spot and there’s not a place to get sushi or seafood in HS either!

Move the Laugh Floor out of Tomorrowland – and move in…Muppets in Space!!!
Lois Pierce says
I saw a great suggestion on YouTube for MuppetVision 3D. Move it to the theatre next to the Imagination Pavilion. It’s already set up for 3D and is severely underutilized at the moment. Probably most of the theatre animatronics would be able to be set up there as well. And the Muppets certainly are a tribute to imagination.

Disney has relocated a whole show in the past. Festival of the Lion King in Animal Kingdom was moved from Camp Mickey Minnie to Africa, so the moving of the Laugh Floor is plausible.
