Big changes are coming to Disney World!
From a new Tropical Americas Land in Animal Kingdom to Villains Land and Cars attractions in Magic Kingdom, there’s going to be so much to see in the coming years. But one of the biggest surprises that Disney dropped on us was the new Monsters, Inc. Land coming to Hollywood Studios…and now we know where it will be located!
When the Monsters, Inc. Land was first announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024, there was a lot of speculation about where it would be located. Popular ideas included everything from Muppets Courtyard to Animation Courtyard to the possibility of replacing Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. But now, the debate is finally settled.
Disney has officially announced that Monsters, Inc.Land will be located in the Grand Avenue south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This is also known as the Muppets Courtyard.
With this change, we’ll have to say goodbye to Muppet*Vision 3D, PizzeRizzo, Mama Melrose, and the bathrooms in this area. We’re expecting Monsters, Inc. replacements for each of those locations, though! Just look at the concept art — the Muppet*Vision 3D attractions appears to be some kind of new show. We see what looks to be a new Harryhausen’s restaurant, and the building where the restrooms are located is still intact.
Speaking of Muppet*Vision 3D’ impending closure, it seems like Disney has something up its sleeve to honor the show. Disney said, “As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.” Could this mean the show will wind up on Disney+? Maybe parts of the show will be used in the newly-rethemed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, starring the Muppers? We’ll have to wait and see!
Soon. Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have THREE roller coasters! Here’s a closer look at the new suspended roller coaster coming to the back section of Monsters, Inc. Land.
In this model created by Walt Disney Imagineering, the indoor coaster looks to wind all around a large warehouse-style building. We know there will be suspended doors whizzing past riders, but it’s unclear if those doors will be presented on a screen or in physical, 3D form.
We still don’t know how long this new ride will last, but here are some examples of other ride times in Disney World:
- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster — 1 minute 22 seconds
- Slinky Dog Dash — 2 minutes
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train — 2 minutes 50 seconds
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind — 3 minutes
We expect this new coaster to fall somewhere within this range of times.
Disney also confirmed that the new land will include new dining and shopping, as well as a whole new theater show. We can’t wait to learn more!
We’ll make sure to keep you in the loop with any more news about this new land in Hollywood Studios, so stay tuned to DFB!

This final decision to do away with the Muppets Courtyard and Muppets 3-D simply breaks my heart. With all the available land that WDW already owns or the unused Animation Courtyard over by the currently closed Little Mermaid attraction, there were better choices available for Monsters, Inc. Chalk this up to another ill-conceived Bob Iger decision to mess with the legacy of another masterful entertainment artist, Jim Henson.
