Disney recently announced that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is going to be rethemed with The Muppets. Disney adults DEFINITELY had some thoughts about this announcement and fans are VERY divided on whether Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring The Muppets is a good idea or not.
Currently, the attraction is Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and features a variety of songs from this iconic rock band. However, the roller coaster attraction on Sunset Boulevard will soon be taken over by The Muppets as the new Monsters, Inc. land moves into the Muppets Courtyard area of Hollywood Studios. What do Disney fans really think of this change? We are rounding up some of our reader’s comments to give you a glimpse at the thoughts Disney adults are having!
Like we said, there are people on both sides, some are excited for this retheme, while others are dreading the day that Aerosmith is no longer featured on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Jade wrote, “This is a huge win. Aerosmith is not family-friendly, and the singer is a creep. I’m happy to see them go.” Geoff also agreed writing, “I like this move! Rock-n-Roller Coaster is more worn out than Stephen Tyler’s vocal chords + “Monsters Inc” is an easy replacement for the empty area around Muppet Vision 3D.”
Jessica was also on-board with the retheme announcement, although she did wish it wasn’t at the expense of losing Aerosmith. She wrote, “Although I’m sad about losing the Aerosmith aspect, I’ve been waiting for this for 20 years since they lost the MGM on Hollywood. I’m happy for the Muppets and glad to keep them around (just wish it wasn’t losing Aerosmith).” There are many fans of The Muppets that are excited that they are getting more attention and their first-ever ride at Disney World.
However, there are also many Disney fans who are NOT excited at all about The Muppets coming to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Haley wrote, “I just don’t see how you can keep it the Rock n Roller Coaster with Muppets. Muppets music is silly and quirky not cool and rocking. There were plenty of better options for a rebranding of this ride.”
Olivia also agreed writing, “What an absolute tragedy for the future of this great ride…” Natalie is also having a hard time with understanding the retheme writing, “I’m struggling to be on board with this project. I can see using Muppets for the decor and staging preshow room. But come on! You need actual rock and roll songs for the actual ride. You can’t launch a coaster to rainbow connection.”
We also heard from Karen who wrote, “Who is making the decisions for WDW lately? This is insane. It’s ridiculous. WHY oh WHY the Muppets? It’s almost as bad as putting Cars where Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America are…almost.” We have definitely seen a lot of people confused by the announcement and feeling that a different theme would have been more suited for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
Disney has not announced yet how much of the attraction will be changing or when the ride will be closed for the retheme. The Monsters, Inc. land is expected to begin construction next year, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be closed that soon either. There are STRONG opinions about the retheme, and we will be sure to keep you updated as we learn more from Disney!

Never got the chance to ride it! Not happy.

I’ve actually ridden RnR with the Phineas & Ferb “Roller Coaster: The Musical” song on earphones, and it seems to match up relatively well. I’d love to see that, but the Electric Mayhem could be good, too.
The Aerosmith thing is really tired (not to mention that one of them is dead, and Steven Tyler is definitely a creeper), so I’ll withhold judgement on the muppet retheme until I see it. I just hope it’s not going to be offline for too long, unlike Big Thunder – 1 year? Really? For “updates” that Disneyland already has in place?
We’ll see, I guess…

We’re in our 70’s. Didn’t do the old Roller Coaster; won’t do the new Roller Coaster. We will miss the Muppets, though. I predict they’re not gone forever.

another retheming with absolutely no thought. Rebranding for the sake of rebranding. Disney has completely lost their way.

That’s a big mistake. Would have been much better using a different rock band, not the silly Muppets. Next time I visit Disney World, I will avoid the ride if it has the Muppets.

I am not happy they kicked Aerosmith to the curb. After the 20 year contract was up Aerosmith was taken off the merch. I am from Boston area, they are my favorite band and are national known, I think it is a shame and a waste of money and time for Disney to redesign the ride. I love the Muppets but enjoyed seeing Muppet’s 4d and will miss both these attractions.

While I never has the stomach to try Rocken’ Roller Coaster due to darkness and motion sickness issues, I won’t miss it at all. I will miss seeing my muppet friends on every visit ti the park, now I have another reason not to visit the park. muppets appealed to a wide audience of you and old, male and female of all ages from 2 to 72. Rocken’ Roller Coaster does not appeal to guests like me, small children under 10 or below a certain height, or senior guests over let’s say 65. So let’s trade. Family friendly attraction with wide appeal to one that services less than half of the park attendee’s. Nice move Disney.

I’m still on team it should be Powerline instead he’s the greatest rockstar ever XD

I’m so sad that Aerosmith is being replaced by the Muppets. RnRC is one of my favorite rides and a big part of that is Aerosmith. Hopefully it takes awhile to close so I can ride again before Muppets take over…

I welcome the Muppets. Bring it!

I feel like this is an unnecessary retheming. This is why older teens prefer Universal Studios. Muppets already had a place . They could have taken the whole area where they have the movie and the pizzeria and had a Muppet area.
