Some BIG news was dropped recently for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Disney officially announced that the new Monsters, Inc. Land will be replacing Muppets Courtyard at Hollywood Studios. This announcement confirmed several things — the Muppets will be removed from the south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and a whole new theater show is coming to Monsters, Inc. Land. The announcement also confirmed that the beloved Muppet*Vision 3D show will be removed, but we also spotted a subtle and mysterious clue that has us questioning what might be in store for this popular show!
There are many mixed feelings about the new Monsters, Inc. Land and Muppets developments. Those who love the Muppets are sad to see the courtyard being removed from Hollywood Studios, and the biggest disappointment may be the loss of Muppet*Vision 3D.
Muppet*Vision was the last project Jim Henson worked on and is a true theme-park classic. Those who love the Muppets and those who barely know the Muppets have enjoyed this Hollywood Studios staple since its addition to the park in 1991. The show combined 3D effects with real-world effects and animatronics. Its silly antics have been a source of laughter for guests of Disney World for years.
So when the news was shared that it would be going away forever, many fans were devastated. However, tucked away in the big announcement about Monsters, Inc. Land and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was a small yet impactful clue. Disney stated, “As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.”
We’re not sure what “exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future” means exactly, but that wasn’t the only mysterious clue we got about this popular show, which really has our curiosity piqued! The Jim Henson Company also shared a statement with a hidden clue.
In a statement shared on social media, the Jim Henson Company added, “As we learn of the show’s upcoming closure in its current form at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we look forward to Muppet*Vision 3D’s next act.” So it sounds like the Jim Henson Company knows what could be in store for Muppet*Vision and what its “next act” will entail!
Could Muppet*Vision 3D get a 2D replication and show up on Disney+ for fans to enjoy? Is there a new location being considered for the show elsewhere at Disney World? We don’t know the answers yet, but we do know there’s a future for this beloved show!
As we eagerly wait to learn what the future holds for Muppet*Vision 3D, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for any indication of what’s to come. As Disney continues to make announcements, you can be sure we’ll cover it all, so keep following DFB!

A relocation to a smaller theatre would be a perfect move.
Unfortunately the show wasn’t filling ALL the available spaces recently.
GL Josh says
I agree with Marcelo Machado, a smaller venue would be great. Hollywood Studios needs some basic people eaters with shade and AC.

Seems destined for Sunset Showcase, right next door to Muppets RRRC, the Villains show serving as a temporary stopgap (and maybe test running some concepts for Villains Land). No?

The last time I saw The Muppets 3D, I thought it was getting kind of old. Perhaps the Imagineers are thinking of a new 3D show to be shown in Hollywood Studios.

I’m 58 and still love the Muppet 3D attraction!

While true, filling the seats could mearly be an updating, improved seating in the courtyard, and a new groundbreaking experience all in the same location. Rizzo’s is an under performer because of the poor food at high prices. They have not reached the correct balance. Mama Melrose, while a long time favorite could easily be turned into the Swedish Che’s Surprise with muppet support in the walls. Move Monster’s to the Star Wars Hotes, re-theme it as Monstropolis with shops and uniques eateries, add the door attraction and Monster U and viola….plenty of room for everyone. Don’t bury the muppets on the Rocken Roller Coaster.

What would make sense: Move Muppets 3D to where the Villains (formerly Cars) venue is near RR. Move the Villains show to Villains Land at MK. Move Monsters Inc Laugh Floor to the new Monsters land (tbh moving Star Tours near GE would be best…) and reopen Alien Encounter with Stitch at Tomorrowland, because of the live action movie. Don’t get me started on reskinning Tomorrowland Speedway as a Cars attraction instead of in Frontierland..because that doesn’t make sense!

As I’ve said before the best thing they could do with MuppetVision 3D is to move it to the theater next to the Imagination Pavilion. It’s underutilized at best, and it’s already equipped with the wherewithal to show a 3D movie. They could move most of the show elements into that theater as well. And the Muppets are nothing, if not imaginative.

If they plan to keep the Muppets 3D portion, then just keep the Muppets where they are now. There is whole section that was already planned it seemed for Monsters Inc. and now they have moved. This whole thing makes no sense…
Eloni says
I think they should move it to Sesame Street land at Seaworld as a permanent attraction. Clearly Disney doesn’t care about Jim Hensons legacy in the least. Putting it on Disney plus is not a good solution at all.
