Cast Members are the ones who really make the magic happen at the Disney parks! Our Disney World trips would not be the same without them.
Sure, the rides are amazing, the merchandise is tempting, and the details throughout the parks are incredible, but none of it would be the same without the Cast Members!
We love Cast Members here at DFB, and we actually have quite a few former Cast Members on our team. They worked in various areas around the parks, and we asked them what rules they wish people would stop breaking. Four main rules seem to get broken A LOT, so if you want to make Cast Memebers’ job a bit easier, keep on reading. Here are the four rules that Cast Members wish people would stop breaking:
Not Being Where You Should Be
There is A LOT to take in at Disney World! The lights, the sounds, the smells, and we totally get that it can be a bit overwhelming at times. But Cast Members really wish you would pay attention to lines on the ground indicating where you should and should not be standing.
In attractions, you will often see yellow lines that Cast Members will ask you to stand behind. During parades and fireworks shows, there will be areas designated by ropes or white tape that indicate where you can stand to view the show. Sometimes, the lines can be confusing, but you can always ask for clarification from a Cast Member! Being where you are supposed to be makes their job SO much easier.
Not Showing Up On Time
If you have opted to purchase a Lightning Lane service or book advance dining reservations, do your best to arrive as close to on time as possible. Things happen, and you may not always make it right on time, but stay on top of your reservations in the My Disney Experience app to make Cast Members’ jobs easier. They will try their best to accommodate you whenever they can, but it isn’t always possible. They really don’t want to be the one to ruin something for your group, so try your best to be on time!
Not Respecting Character’s Boundaries
This is a HUGE one for Cast Members, especially character attendants and character performers. It is super important to respect the character’s boundaries. Don’t lift the character up or put them in an uncomfortable position. Also, don’t try to get them to “break character.” Have fun with them and interact all you want, but make sure it is in a respectful way!
Not Putting Away Your Belongings
We know how exciting it is to be the next person in line to board an attraction. As you hop in a Cast Member directs you to put away your belongings, including your phone. Cast Members are begging you to listen! While you may REALLY want to film yourself on the attraction or have your phone in easy access, it makes the Cast Members’ job so much easier if you stow those items away. There are certain attractions where it is perfectly fine to have your phone out, but just make sure you are listening to Cast Member instructions.
As well, if you are ever evacuated from a ride, you will get asked to put your phone away. This is for your safety to ensure you are watching where you are going. The backstage areas often have uneven areas or small walkways, so they want to make sure you are watching. Help the Cast Member out by putting your phone away!
Listening to Cast Members will be the easiest way to make their jobs easier for them! They want you to have the best vacation possible, but they also want to make sure everyone stays safe and that everyone is treated fairly. We have had so many wonderful experiences with Cast Members that it’s impossible to choose a favorite. Being kind, respectful, and patient truly pays off, especially when you are the exception rather than the rule that CMs are having to deal with. We have received small but treasured tokens, been helped way above and beyond, and even once we were rescued by an especially observant CM when other guests were bullying their way ahead in the lne and faslely accused us of getting in front of them. The CMs are so wonderful. We have had the odd bad experience over the years, but I can geniunely only remember one with a CM in a lifetime of Disney trips. There have been so many magical moments to reflect on that CMs helped to make happen, it’s no wonder we’re so attached to Disney trips.

These were right on point. I also can’t stand when people don’t know in America we walk on the RIGHT side of things, nor do we just randomly stop in walkways/moving ways. Get off your phones. Step to the side. Don’t look at me like I’m in the wrong when you almost get hit by my 4 seating stroller. Lastly, don’t feel so entitled to think this Disney trip you’re on is all about you. That’s when cast members get sick to their stomachs. There are thousands of other people, and the day will not be centered around you, nor should it. *venting barf complete haha*

When I was a cast member in Operations back in the 70s, it was OUR job to make the GUESTS day easier. Not the other way around.
What a pity things have changed. Never did I even “suggest” to a guest that they make MY life easier! Oh and by the way, I got paid bad money, had to have a haircut every 2 weeks, stay clean shaven, wear no jewelry or tattoos.
And I never felt affronted that I had to do all that. It was MY choice to work there and I WANTED to.
