Disney made a somewhat controversial announcement by fans’ standards.
After months of speculation, Disney officially announced that the new Monsters, Inc. Land will be replacing Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Therefore, much to many fans’ dismay, Mike Wazowski will be replacing Kermit the Frog in his pond. (We just hope that Mike’s face will be seen on all the merchandise and not be covered up by bar codes!) With this somewhat shocking news, the internet has responded with both serious discourse and humor (probably laughing to keep from crying). Here’s what the internet has to say.
On a more serious note, the internet came after the Walt Disney Company leadership saying that they have destroyed many classics such as Star Wars, Marvel, maybe Rivers of America, and now Muppets.
Let’s see. @Disney destroyed…..
– #SplashMountain
– Star Wars
– Marvel (outside of Deadpool 3)
– Muppets
– Maybe Rivers of AmericaMore reasons why the @WaltDisneyCo needs new leadership.#SaveSplashMountain @Disneyland @WaltDisneyWorld @DisneyParks @RobertIger @elonmusk pic.twitter.com/bVo2CR3lVJ

One X account went on a long explanation sharing their thoughts on the in’s, out’s, and why’s of this major re-homing decision. They attribute this decision to being a cheap option for the company and say that instead of ADDING to the park, they are now SUBTRACTING from it.
So let’s breakdown why todays announcements were really decided on:
Disney doesn’t care about the Muppets, but they are aware enough to know some fans do. By moving Muppet characters to the RNR they remove the problem of Aerosmith (old, have to pay licensing fees, not Disney… pic.twitter.com/r0ttliFTKK

Many of our own readers have commented that it would make more sense for Kermit and Muppet*Vision 3D, the last work done by Jim Henson, to replace Lightning McQueen Racing Academy at Sunset Showcase instead of the new Villains show, or the Villains show should eventually be moved to Magic Kingdom when Villains Land opens and then put Muppet*Vision 3D in Sunset Showcase.
Reader Tracy, shared this idea, “Put Muppets 3D where the Lightning McQueen show is. Move the new villains show to Villains Land in MK. The merch store at the end of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be a Muppets store, and it would be easy to convert the snack cart outside Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to a Muppets theme. Then you would have a ride, show, store and quick service/snack cart which basically makes a ‘land’!”
On a more lighthearted note, the internet had some good laughs, as well! In the announcement, Disney said, “we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.” While not Muppet*Vision 3D per se, this account on X has a pretty fun way of preserving the muppets and Kermit!
disney needs to just start adding the muppets to every live action remake… it’s not too late for the muppets’ moana pic.twitter.com/6uxgB7Zt8f

All in all, there are lots of fans who are upset by this news. If you don’t believe us, then this post on X will hopefully convince you!
The biggest family disagreement this year was when my brother and his wife questioned why Muppets were being added to to Rock n Roller coaster because they didn’t know who liked the muppets. My reaction pic.twitter.com/3QLRMyLvAS

Yes, there are still lots of Muppets fans out there, and many of them are personally hurt by news. However, there are many who are looking for the bright side of Kermit’s relocation.

Yep, Kermit is being pushed out of Muppets Courtyard by Mike Wazowski, James P. Sullivan, and the rest of Monstropolis, but at least there’s still hope for Muppets fans over at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. The new rendition of the ride have the Muppets “teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival!” So we’ll just have to wait and see how Disney preserves Muppet*Vision 3D, and what’s in store for the re-theming of this popular ride!

I believe people are over reacting. The parks need to stay relevant for the current generations. Currently the young families who are starting to visit the parks with their children do not know who the muppets are. The Muppets are very dated and honestly i never liked them.
