Okay, we’ve got some BIG huge ROARING Animal Kingdom news to share.
So, Animal Kingdom could be the most underrated park in all of Disney World, and not just because the food there is among the best in all four parks. Animal Kingdom is also home to a SLEW of animals, and you can see them on a safari ride, as well as on the many walking trails the park has to offer. PLUS you can even pet some of them! However, a new addition has made its way to Animal Kingdom, and well, you’re going to be thrilled to see it.
If you’ve been on Kilimanjaro Safaris, you’ve probably been fortunate enough to see the lions that hang out on the savannah there. Well, the previous lions have gone off to retirement and three NEW lions have taken their spots.
The three newbies are all siblings, too, named Mshango, Zahara, and Neema. These young lions have been working on their roars and now they are ready for that spotlight during the Kilimanjaro Safaris tour.
Mshango, Zahara, and Neema are proudly representing the future of lion population. Disney hopes that in time, they will breed with members of another pride as part of an overall effort to ensure their species’ survival.
For now, though, they’re just exploring their new digs just before their kind makes headlines again when Mufasa: The Lion King premieres in theaters on December 20th. The movie highlights the importance of preserving the natural habitats of lions like Mufasa, and others.
Disney has also announced that as part of its ongoing conservation efforts and the launch of the new movie, the company will relaunch its global “Protect the Pride” conservation campaign to support the Wildlife Conservation Network’s Lion Recovery Fund (LRF) and its partners working across Africa to double the number of lions in the wild by 2050.
