If there’s one thing that’s true about Disney World, it’s that it’s always changing.
However, we’re also always changing with it. Our snack preferences change, our tolerance for extreme heat may be getting lower, and, of course, we get older year after year. We’ve found that a lot of the members of our team have really started to notice this as they visit the parks in recent years because a lot of our team is made up of Millennials. As much as it pains us to admit, we’ve started to run into a nearly irreversible problem in the parks.
Although it pains us to admit, there are just some rides we can’t do anymore! While Mission: SPACE has always been high up on that list because, for most people who struggle with motion sickness, this ride has always been a no-go, we do have members of our team who used to have no problem with it, but as they’ve gotten older, they can’t even look at it.
Also high up on this list is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind for the same reason. We have so many members of our team who love this attraction because it’s truly so epic and unlike anything else in the parks, but that ride vehicle will get you! The ability to spin in an entire circle? Amazing for immersiveness, but negative twenty points for motion sickness.
Don’t get us started on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. We love this iconic ride, don’t get us wrong, and some of us are devastated that the Aerosmith theming will be going away forever, but others couldn’t care less because we can’t ride this one anymore, anyway. It doesn’t seem to matter how hard we press our head against the back of the headrest; our head still ends up being banged around and leaving us with a massive headache.
In the same park, we’ll also throw Tower of Terror into the mix here because while it doesn’t whip our heads around, our stomach leaping up into our throat gets harder and harder each year because forcing it back DOWN becomes more of a challenge. Plus, as you get older, that thrill wears off a little bit for a lot of us.
Magic Kingdom doesn’t get out of this one unscathed either, because WOW, does Space Mountain need a refurbishment. We still love it, but our bodies don’t appreciate the jerkiness of each turn (and there’s A LOT of them). We often walk off of it and wish we’d pre-gamed with an Advil.
Animal Kingdom only has one ride on this list for a lot of us, and that’s Expedition Everest. While the ride itself is quite smooth, the G-forces you feel rushing backward on the coaster is a lot and causes a few members of our team to nearly black out, so it certainly has earned its spot on this list.
The sad truth we’re starting to face is that a lot of these rides may not be in our future trips unless we take painkillers at the start of each day, and some are out of the cards altogether if we don’t want to ruin the rest of our day. Wow, the person that wrote this article is now a purse holder. That’s what we call the person that doesn’t ride and waits for everyone else. Guardians can be ridden without nausea if you are in row 1-5. The last car does a total 360 and makes people sick (unfortunately, this is also the transfer car for people with disabilities). Imagine being disabled and then having to throw up. Mission Space, don’t care. Space Mountain–rickety. Rockin Roller–YES! My favorite coaster. Tower–ok, not a must do.

Heck with the millenials. Try being a Gen Xer or worse yet a Boomer! It’s just a big fat NO for 90%. That’s why when gentle but very entertaining nostalgic rides are removed aka splash mountain we get the message loud and clear, “your not welcome here”. Which is why the parks are dying.

Geez! I’m a boomer and love every one of those rides still!!
It’s an amusement park! If you can’t handle the rides don’t go

Wow, Boomer husband and wife here. We hit every ride we can, we must be a couple of thrill seekers. The only rides my wife avoids are the ones that get her shoes wet. She hates having wrinkly feet.

62 here, still love all of those rides!!
Sure, I can’t walk as fast as my kids anymore, or keep up with their endless energy, but keep bringing on these awesome rides!!
Just my opinion, but don’t be defined by “generational names.”
You’re only really as old as you want to be. Take care of yourself and continue having fun!!
God Bless and have a great week!!

GenX here. I ride everything. Love mission:Space first thing in the morning.
Millennials are in for a rude awakening when they hit 50. You think you are “old” now. HAHAHA

Topic is timely for me…a boomer who loves every attraction available in WDW. Just celebrated my 75th there and LOVE TRON! That being said, my old body has just been diagnosed with spine issues that will make me give up several favorites. If only they’d work on Space Mountain!
BUT I’d like to offer the “cure” I taught my spouse for ToT and Guardiansto combat motion sickness. Relax! Let yourself float and don’t flinch! Honest, it works! No more queasiness!
Hope to be around for a lot more new attractions!

I’m 65 and ride all of those except Space Mountain which Ive never liked. Honestly, you young people just can’t take it! ;-))
(I realize people have different tolerance for motion sickness)
